I seem to have resolved my problems by trial and effort and help from fellow GR member :-)

I'm using IE6 for this, but I just went to Firefox to read and reply to a pm


....... for the very first time, I got the Error message after clicking on GR in Bookmarks.


The site couldn't be found.


Never had that when using IE6


It did find GR on the second attempt.

I am still having a major problem in that I cannot read new messages in my inbox :-|. I do wish this site would get it's act together and sort all the bugs in the system out

I haven't been able to send any PM's since having the new message centre. The site is also very slow most of the time and sometimes get the error pages too. I feel that the site was a lot better before GR started changing things and like a lot of other members wish they would sort the problems out very soon.
My subscription is due for renewal in March, but the way things are at the moment I don't think there is much point in renewing.

I have been trying to put old messages in folders but find that every time I try to go to another page after moving messages, I get one of two errors. It is OK if I click on refresh before selecting another page. I use IE9.

Clicking on refresh also takes you back to the page you were working on.

OK, I appreciate I am a bit slow to add a response to this board. I was posting replies to the comments on my Tech Update blog, but recognise that I need to be present on here too. We're working through the issues experienced by you all, and will continue to patch release until we have cleared them.

When I contacted support centre, they just wrote back saying they had managed to access my message page using MY PASSWORD!! and it was fine.
But definitely NOT fine, same problems as others.

However I don't think it right for them to be able to access my page with my password, do you???
What's the point of having one if it's not secure I ask

I can only open my Inbox by refreshing the page. Otherwise all seems okay.

I think I have managed to work out the folder system and have been sorting out my families......quite good fun really.


Hopefully the problems will be sorted out soon. :-D

For the first time in a few days I looked at sent messages, and this appeared again:

Actually a little better today

The whole site was very slow early this morning, UK time ............... and I don't believe there were that many people using it at 4 am to 5 or 6 am :-D


It took me 4 attempts to open the Message Centre at around midnight UK time ...... using Firefox.

The fact the site is currently running slow has little to do with the number of members that might be logged on.

From what I can glean, the problems with performance are happening because the database has grown to such a size that it is taking longer and longer to retrieve the data you are trying to access. If it takes more than a pre-determined time then you get the dreaded error message. It is the same regardless of whether there are one or one hundred thousand people logged on.

You could say it that GR are a victim of their own success.

From what Phil Moir has intimated, the development team are re-writing code to make data retrieval much quicker which will ultimately ease the performance problems.

How long this takes? Who knows....!

One thing I do find interesting is that Message Centre usually opens immediately when I use IE6 .......... even though I cannot send messages


When I go to Firefox, I can send messages, but the Message Centre usually does not open first time .... it can take as many as 6 attempts before I get into it. And then several attempts to get into Inbox.

Perhaps if the records such as census, passenger lists etc were removed, this could improve the speed and stability of the site, perhaps.

could they have got a virus into their servers????
