Tried once more just now and still cannot get into messages:

500 - Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

It took 2 attempts about 10 minutes ago to open Message Centre to get to the Inbox ............. and that is using Firefox.

I suppose that is faster than the 3 to 6 attempts it was taking over the weekend and yesterday :-D

Phil - I have been notified by email that there is a message from you but when I clicked on messages the site whirred round and round and round and then eventually appeared:

also, just found another wrinkle ................

I was looking back at some of the earliest pms that are still extant in my Inbox (a lot are missing), and found that I could open 2 in sequence, but then not a third message.

I went back to the last page ........ and the same thing happened.

It's as if the Message Centre freezes after 2, or occasionally 3, pms have been opened.

I mentioned the 'wrinkle' re freezing when trying to open subsequent messages on the 22nd November on this very thread.....!

It's a bug.....!

Until GR get around to fixing it, hit the refresh button and you you will be able to open your next message.

IGP

Now I remember you posting that!

I have only just been troubled with it.

But now I can't open more than 1 message, then I have to go back (or hit Renew)

so it seems to be getting worse for me

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2012 20:23

Thank you, Phil :-D

It is especially appropriate as I am still having the same problems opening more than 1 message at a time.

I usually (ca 98% of the time) have to leave Message Centre, re-enter, and then open the second message. Then repeat to open the third, etc etc.

I also am having trouble opening Sent Messages ........ that has worked only once in the last 2 months. This means that I cannot check whether a message has been sent NOR if the contact has opened my message.

Welcome home thread, welcome home,
Don't you know that you've been gone too long.
We're just so glad that you survived.
Is it only you that wonders why
That you have lived and other threads have died.

I am with IGP and Sylvs on that one; where it freezes when you try to open another message. It has happened ever since the message system changed and folders and other things came into play.

Hi All

One of the changes we made was introduce the concept of conversation view. The intention introducing this view I believe is correct, as it gives the user the ability to see all that has been said before, but it requires a bit of pre-processing before it can display it. The database has to work out all the messages that relate to the original message. On older threads which are spread across a longer period, the process has to jump around the table looking for these messages and then flag them all up, and then even the reading back requires the same.

I think this is likely to be the cause of the issue, as generally messages that only have one response I find open fairly instant. Please correct me if you are experiencing otherwise.

We need to look at a few options,
pre-processing all the messages into the conversations
improving performance of reading conversation (with better indexes)
maybe offer an option to open just the most recent message, rather than the whole thread, although this may get confusing (people may think they have lost all their messages)

Please let me know if this seems the likely cause, i.e. are the problems most common on old or long conversations? If you want to send examples and prefer to send them to me direct that is fine.

Thanks
Phil Moir

Hi Phil

gosh, you are up early!!!

and I am up very late :-D

I cannot usually open more than 1 message at a time without leaving Message Centre no matter whether they are new or old messages.

I usually cannot open Sent Messages no matter whether they are new or old

I'm using Firefox (updated yesterday, ie Thursday UK time)

and now I'm going to bed before I fall asleep on the keyboard :-D :-D :-D :-D

Quite spooky this message box system..

I have the same prob as IGP

But I really do have to say that Sylvia's problem is beyond the pale. Maybe Canadian postal system has increased the price of postage. We were advised today that ours will increase 1st July.
