'Marked as Answered'

If you plan to continue offering this option, could you please tell people how it is intended to be used

Most people don't have a clue, and add the tag when it clearly should NOT be used.

Better away with it

GlitterBaby Report 23 Nov 2011 13:20

Go back to the old method of altering the thread heading to read COMPLETED or something similar

Going to agree with this suggestion

MargaretM Report 23 Nov 2011 14:01

I'm another one who agrees with this suggestion.

I normally don't bother looking at the ones marked as answered but occasionally have done so only to find that the original question has not been answered. The original poster seems to have clicked on "marked as answered" simply because they've had a response.

KathleenBell Report 23 Nov 2011 15:01

Sometimes it seems to be other people who mark the thread as answered (I suppose because they have added a reply) - even though the original poster's question hasn't been answered at all.

An explanation is definitely needed it the "marked as answered" option is to continue (but people don't always read the explanations of how things work!!)

MargaretM Report 23 Nov 2011 15:46

I gave that explanation once, Kath, but was shot down, was told only the original poster can mark it as answered,

jax Report 23 Nov 2011 18:08

I have never seen an option to mark someone elses thread as answered...have you then?

KathleenBell Report 23 Nov 2011 18:31

Perhaps I'm wrong then but I thought that if the original poster had marked something as answered then the green box that appears round the post would be round one of the original posters replies, but it is often round someone else's replies - as in this thread:-

jax Report 23 Nov 2011 18:33

On the couple of occasions I have posted a thread of my own I believe I could mark any post as answered...either my one or any reply

Edit - Just had a look at one of mine and it says mark as answered next to report on all posts

KathleenBell Report 23 Nov 2011 18:40

In that case Jax it seems I am wrong, but it does go to prove that Flick is right in saying that people need to be told exactly how the system is meant to work - or get rid of it altogether.

I just assumed that the person whose reply had gone green and had the tick next to it had marked it as answered (I know I shouldn't assume anything!! lol)

When one attemps to delete a post, a warning is posted.......

Surely, when 'Marked as answered' is clicked.....a message could appear asking whether the poster is 100% sure that the original query has been fully resolved.

As the young people say...'It's not rocket science'

jax Report 23 Nov 2011 19:46

Yes you do

A box comes up asking "Are you sure you want to flag this post as answered"

SylviaInCanada Report 23 Nov 2011 20:10

I agree with this suggestion

JoyDean Report 24 Nov 2011 10:56 :)

Flick Report 24 Nov 2011 15:05

In that case, the message needs it is currently worded, it is unclear, to say the least

It should ask if the query has been FULLY the moment, people send PM's and 'mark as answered' the message posted by the person to whom they send the PM

Flick Report 5 Dec 2011 18:29

It's now being used instead of thanking helpers for providing rude and lazy is that????????
