Since I got my "Warning" I have decided I no longer want to use this site after the 20th.
I have never been abusive to anyone (that I know of) but there is someone who has been doing this for at least 18 months mainly aimed at me because I point out a "duplicate thread" This person has been reported so many times and at least 3 times yesterday on one thread. The thread was removed in the end, but this person still managed to post today.....why??...I wonder what warning if any this person is on?

Like Sylvia I only pay my £9.95 (6 months) to help other members, and to be honest I cant be bothered now.

To " give up " after over 13 thousand posts

Why ?

EVEN ONE "THANK YOU MESSAGE" BACK FROM A SEARCHER
should cancel all the hassle you have had.

One email from you could change a person's life that is surely reward enough !

Do not waste your knowledge of genealogy & how to search the websites
it would be such a shame.

Jax, Surely the only ones who will suffer is you because you will probably miss the interaction on here, and the people that you normally help. don't think for one moment that GR will feel any pain at all if you don't renew. You will just give the person who is persecuting you a reason to gloat.

Jax
If you leave then the R&Rers will have won.
Moreover, you will no longer have a "voice"

Out of sight, out of mind.

jax, you and I and others are a drop in the ocean as far as genes reunited are concerned.

Hold your head up high. Hopefully an abject apology to you will be forthcoming soon.

I am not asking them or anyone to beg me to stay, just want them to tell me why I got a warning
Had they just said they had removed the post...which I could'nt really understand why....but Ho Hum....The warning was the part that got me.

I changed my payment details to single yesterday and got a reminder today telling me I will continue to Pay £34.95 as long as I am a member...that is worrying as I only pay £9.95 now :-D

As I save a lot of my emails I went back to two years ago when I joined and that was what I paid as a Gold member but have been a standard member for 18 months.

Jax at the top of the page. Does it say standard member? If so notify GR admin and ask why they have quoted gold.

jax

jax Report 9 Jan 2012 22:00

As there is no such thing as Gold now why would I want it? yes I am a standard member

No I will not bother Ann they obviously do not read what they send out to their members...nor do they bother reading what you ask them.

I think you you have to tick the 'continuous membership' box to keep it at £9.95 for a standard yearly membership.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 10 Jan 2012 09:41

You do not have to tick continuous membership. You just have to make sure you renew

(You used to have 28 days in which to renew and keep your reduced sub, but not sure if this is still the case)

jax

jax Report 10 Jan 2012 16:47

Well I am glad I ticked auto renewal off, would not be very pleased if they took £34.95 for 6 months :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jan 2012 05:28

You did not have to tick "continuous" membership ............ I've always had mine as Single Membership, as I want control of which card I'm going to use.

GR send an email about 4 weeks before the membership is due .............. and there is no change in your subscription as long as you respond within 28 days of the end of your sub.

At least, that was the status as of last June

........ and this is what I was told in December on a thread on THIS very Board

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/suggestions/thread/1287838

I asked:-

"Does this message that appears when I ticked Auto Renew OFF mean what I think it means?

"By turning off auto renewal your subscription will be left to expire on the 9th June 2012. Also any features purchased with this subscription will also expire on the same date."

In plain words, does that message mean that GR WILL NO LONGER BE SENDING EMAILS TO MEMBERS WHO USE THIS FUNCTION TO REMIND THEM THAT THEIR SUBSCRIPTION WILL END AS OF A CERTAIN DATE.

In other words, will you really deny a member renewal, and much more importantly, increase the subscription from the £9.95 per year to $19.95 per year?"

----

The reply was:-

"Hi Sylvia - Apologies for the confusion. The sentence; "By turning off auto renewal your subscription will be left to expire on the 9th June 2012. Also any features purchased with this subscription will also expire on the same date" does not mean that we will not be sending you an email to remind you of your renewal. We will always remind you that your subscription is coming to an end.

'Features' are a form of mini subscription available to Platinum members. If a Platinum member wants to view Parish records or any other records not included in their Platinum membership they have the ability to add that 'Feature' to their subscription. This is what we mean by features. As you have pointed out it does not make much sense for Standard members, so I will have a think about how I can make this clearer. "
