Mildred

before mocking me ..... take note of the following facts, and then ask yourself the questions that follow.

1. The posts and OP to which I am referring usually get RR'd on Genealogy Chat and Find Ancestors
2. The posters have ranged from brand new to infrequent to regulars ........ the poster asking for 17th century info was relatively new
3. These are posts asking for information ............ not giving opinions that may differ from anyone else's on the thread

Then ask yourself:-
1. How often are you on the boards between about 10 or 11 pm and 6 am?
................... at least 5 or 6 nights a week; once a month; once a year; never

2. How often do you post on Genealogy Chat and/or Find Ancestors
.................. at least 5 or 6 nights a week; once a month; once a year; never

3. How often do you look on Genealogy Chat and/or Find Ancestors?

If you are on the site 5 or 6 nights a week and almost always on those 2 boards ......... then I will accept your mockery

otherwise .............................. it's just an unpleasant response to my posting

Sorry if I gave misinformation re getting emails from GR

I have had postings RR'd ..... always on "old" Chat, and in evey case I received an email from GR telling me that it had happened, and what the alleged reason was.

I've also succeeded in getting posts restored.

ive sent genes another e mail.asking for a further explanation about my supposed abuse(ive never abused anyone just questioned.
they have not replied. :-(

jax Report 23 Jan 2012 22:02

It is just a standard email from GR I got one the other week.

My post was removed I asked why and I got a standard reply, but I could not understand why any member would have reported it in the first place.

The first email they sent me said I was on a warning because

"You will already be aware that you have previously been reported to us for your postings on our website."

Now if I was aware, where are the other emails telling me I had posts reported??

I asked if they could tell me about the other so called reported posts....did they tell me....No

I e mailed genes about 2hrs ago, after finally finding my message on my sky mail site,
my thread was taken off because i was abusive?i was never abusive to anyone on that thread and in the 7yrs ive been on this site have never been abusive to anyone in a post or e mail,i never breached T&Cs and i was just asking for help from GR,and instead of helping they threatened to ban me?
NICE.so it seems to me that the long standing members are treated like s--- on this site, beware never question a post just take it all in and believe everything you read, its all TRUE. :-(

"You should have received an email from GR telling you that the thread had been removed, and why."

- I have had posts removed and not received notification about them.

Phantom Reporter :-D :-D :-D :-D

No, at least in this instance the opening post was reported twice, and a couple of other posts also reported.

The thread also had a minority of members on it complaining.

So in this instance two plus two is four & as the complainers have denied any finger twitching I can only assume its someone with their own agenda who has RRd whilst hiding their beak behind a veil of secrecy.

If the reported posts were bad enough to be reported why did they ignore mine ?

Answer...because certain people were targeted...nothing to do with the posts. Most posts you can pick holes in & find reasons why it needs to be reported, and if you put a good enough argument across, it gets removed.

BTW

GR says Support will (or should!) respond within 24 hours ........... but office hours are roughly8:00 or 8:30 am to 4:00 or 4:30 pm

so you probably won't hear until tomorrow.

Julia

Have you emailed GR to ask why your post was removed?

If not, you should do so.

I gave Suzanne the email address.

You will have to tell them the thread on which you posted, and when.

I hate to tell you this ......................

but there has been a Phantom Reporter around for several months

There have been several threads about his/her actions ........... usually on Genealogy Chat ............. and you may have missed them.

He or she seems to appear at about 2 weekly intervals, usually on a Sunday and / or Monday nights ....... it starts at about 11 pm UK time.

Various posts will be reported for RR ......... and there is usually no seeming reason why.

I've seen a lot of the posts before they disappeared ........ one was someone asking for help finding some information in 1600 and something!

I have my suspicions that it is .................. an insomniac, or overseas member; that they are fuelled by alcohol; or they get their jollies by getting everyone all wound up.

It could be any, all or none of those!

Last night was only 1 week since the last episode .... so a little out of sequence.

Three or four of us night owls have been keeping track, and have notified GR when the Phantom seems to be in action

GR maintains that they do keep track of who RR's posts ........ and anyone who is seen to be over-enthusiastic, or wrongly reporting, will be banned from the site.

I've had threads or posts removed by GR & they dont always offer explanation

What. I don't understand is, peoples posts were reported for agreeing with the sentiments I posted in a post. But no one reported my posts,

Seems the reporter had an axe to grind with the posters so reported them using their posts as an excuse. After all if the posts breached t&c, then so would have mine.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 23 Jan 2012 19:45

thank you sylvia.
ive just sent GR an e - mail, nothing in my junk or my messages from GR.
Idont know what time my thread was removed because i have been out at work all day, an explanation would be nice.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 23 Jan 2012 19:25

Suzanne

You should have received an email from GR telling you that the thread had been removed, and why.

Sometimes, the email is sent by your Security into Junk Mail ........ because it has not recognised the GR address as a valid address, and treats it as spam. So you should check your Junk Mail file.

The other possibility is that GR does not have your current home email address ................. have you ever changed it and not notified GR? If that is so, then the message will have been sent to the old address.

You can email [email protected], and ask why the thread was deleted.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 23 Jan 2012 11:33

very true it is oftent he poster and not the post, :(

Julia

Julia Report 23 Jan 2012 11:29

I totally agree with you Stray, but do not know what the real answer to this is. It can be very upsetting if a post that you have made, complies with the T & C, and when you come back to it, it has been removed from the board, for apparently no reason. It is done many times, on a reader's whim, for whatever gratification it gives them. It may be that they have seen something in it, that you have not seen yourself as the poster. And, therefore, that is okey to report it.
However, it can often be for more malicious reasons. The one pressing the button is perhaps doing it on behalf of one of their 'friends' for some reason, long forgotten. Or, they have had a tussle with you in the past, also long forgotten. Or, they do not like you, for whatever reason.
So that brings us back to the actual post itself. This may have had nothing wrong with it at all.

they do have polls amazinggrace, and people ask for things when they get them moan lol,

so GR cant really win they listen to there members a lot more than they used to thats for sure,

any site like this is never gona make every member happy no matter what they do, :-(

Julia,
I hadn't read your post when I typed mine. In fact it wasn't there when I started my reply but it was when I finally pressed Submit, It does take me ages to write a post which is why I have a low post count and they are usually rather short in the end.

AmazingGrace08

AmazingGrace08 Report 23 Jan 2012 08:56

Hi all,

Well this subject had been raised over a lot of posts before with the same suggestions, but no real response from GR,

I wish every now and again they could take a poll and ask us (paying members) what we'd like to see improved or added the most, collate the results, let us know what they were and perhaps work on one or some of them!

It makes it difficult when there is no rhyme or reason why things get reported.

Julia

Julia Report 23 Jan 2012 08:32

In this instance, I typed thread when I should have typed post, and I was referring to my answer above, to Patchem's post.
