SylviaInCanada Report 1 Mar 2012 17:31

Hi

I contacted GR yesterday, a) to find out WHY the post had been removed, and b) complaining bitterly about the breach of privacy shown by my maiden surname being used.

I do have SylviaInCanada marked as the name to be used in ALL communications on this site.

The response from GR this morning told me ..................

a) the post had been removed because ....................

"I have re-read the thread and I can see that you were discussing the owners of our site. Whilst your comments were mostly positive towards us, we did feel that it was not necessary to discuss our current and previous owners in great detail. This is why we removed the post."

OK ..... so now I know.

It seems petty that one cannot post information that can be found easily by googling, and which is also well known to those of us who have been members for a long time, through all the changes. But I'm not about to argue, or get angry.

b) regarding the use of my surname, this is the response ......................

"Your maiden name was included as this is the name you have added to the current surname field. This can be seen on the My Account page. I have now amended this to 'In Canada' for you.

Alternatively, on the My Account page you can opt to use your message board name for all communication through the site, rather than the name you have registered with."

As I said near the beginning of this post, I had opted to have my board name used in all communications through the site. It has been like that for the last 8 years!

As a side line to this ......... I received an email off-site this morning from a friendre a message she had received telling her that I had RR'd someone and she should "not be taken in by me" :-S :-S

For the record, as I keep saying, I have never RR'd anyone except for abusive or discriminatory posts.

The last RR I did was several weeks ago when someone posted an abusive comment re someone who has not been on the site for a long time, and so could not defend themselves.

Island Report 1 Mar 2012 19:17

Sylvia, I too contacted 'support' about the same matter and received quite a different response. I was told that when I contact another member my name is revealed to them (in other words 'what's the difference?') Well this simply isn't true! and in any case I would be contacting another member through choice, having my private information revealed to anyone with a whim to report me is an entirely different matter!

I have to say, Sylvia, your first point about them disapproving of being discussed is laughable! Do they ever read the boards? LOL

If anyone is low on smelling salts and has a nervous finger, please have the decency to let me know and I will edit. :-) :-D

I find it hard to understand why some people get personal messages from genes when asking the reason for removed posts, and some dont,
ive had several threads removed since nov(ive been on genes since 2003).
ive mailed genes at least 10 times asking for explanations, and been fobbed off with the standerd letter, another one of my threads was RRd last wk,and then re-instated and then removed again,up to now ive had no mails from genes and no answers to my questions. :-(

I have discovered that it was the person who pm'd me yesterday who contacted my friend today

and these are the 2 pms he sent her ....................

------------------
Subject: Dont be hoodwinked

1 Mar 7:51 AM

Dont be hoodwinked by Sylvia for this person is the one who reported my posts, how do i know this the help desk told me.

3:36 PM

It is this person who is reporting what you have posted. If in a response you have disagreed with her comments.

------------------

Unless I have completely lost my marbles, I have not reported ANY threads or posts by him. I was told this morning that a thread by him, "Have you", posted on the Suggestions Board went between Tuesday and today. But that is all I know.

I am fortunate that the member he sent the pm's to, was concerned enough to let me know what was going on. But how do I know how many other people he has contacted, with these statements that completely malign me?

I have pm'd GR to ask for advice, and suggestions on what to do.

I am completely unashamed in admitting this ..... he has maligned me, accused me of doing something that I did not do, and I have no idea how many other people he has contacted.

Suzanne ..................... I just flat out asked what was going on, especially as it was the person responsible who let me know what he had done.

I also ended the message with "Please, none of your usual platitudes" :-D :-D

Now, they will NEVER tell you who reported the post or thread .............. so you don't find that out, and he is fibbing in that second pm to my contact
