It does say single words or hyphenated words like Bishops-Stortford

oops............ better explanation.........

On Home Page, discussion about Scotland.......... go to that......... there isn't a box for search, you have to click on (can't remember) something else to search.......I did that and a search box came up.........I had tried a few names........ no problem, but when I tried to find a message I had read (typing in the two names on the post) I got the alphanumeric message

more than one word and you get the "hypen" message

I have just searched for jax as there would be quite a few as I sometimes sign jax or someone says thank you jax.......over 1000 posts

First one on the list was dated march 2012 and was something to do with me, but the rest of the 1st page went back to 2007 and related to someone else who had jax in her board name. Why are all these old threads coming up first?

Did you have a space in it Scozzie? Even if you ended the search word with a space it will reject it.

searching for something on a board, I got this message:

Search word can only contain alphanumeric characters, hypens(-) or apostrophes (')

I didn't have ANY characters other than alphabet

I didn't have a hypen (not my spelling) or an apostrophe either
