GlitterBaby Report 2 Aug 2012 13:14

Have no problems using Ancestry but this site does seem to be a little bit brighter although slowly getting used to it.

Also puzzled as to why some changes on font sizes etc are being suggested when I did not have to do that before.

Yes Cynthia, to a point,

I suppose though that from my perspective having given feedback on the beta test and feeling confident that along with everyone else's feedback it would 'count' ( and it does seem to have re the colours on the tree, the red
( now purple thankfully lol) stars etc I was disappointed that the main cause for concern which I know was repeatedly mentioned ie brightness, turquoise text colour was 'ignored'. ( and I suspect stongly that it's not the staff's 'fault' but was based on the view to standardise colour with the FR site)

I don't mind exploring, it's how I learned to use the computer, and all the sites I use, being temperamentally averse to reading instruction booklets lol... lots of the people complaining don't mind exploring, but you have to be able to read it comfortably to do that.

btw re matches in records, if anyone can tell me how there can be 28 matches in 1871 for Mary Ann Alice Copas...I'd be happy to know. ;-)

I have no problem with change,

The home page looks good and the new tree is an improvement

The overall look and changes to GR are a great step forward and i do prefer the new look but when I'm on the community boards the background is far too bright for me I have changed my settings to compensate but these changes only go so far towards helping but don't solve the problem

I can only stay on the boards for abt 10 minutes at a time which is bad for my health because in the breaks from the board i find that i end up having a fag whilst my eyes recover so have gone from 10 a day up to 30 a day :-P

If you read my post you'll see I did a side by side comparison and it is much easier on the eye on Ancestry than it is on GR despite both being white backgrounds.

I don't know why but it is. And yes Jonesey the text on Ancestry is grren rather than the turquoise on here but for some reason it works better than the text on here. But the biggest thing is distinguishing the boxes in the tree on here from the background..white on white on here.

Just been looking at my tree Rose.

It tells me there are 10 matches for me. 4 birth records and 6 tree matches.

Of the 6 tree matches, 4 are correct then there is 1 born in Oz and 1 in Scotland!!

My word, my mother must have been in labour for a very long time!!! ;-) :-D

I imagine GR are just taking the name and dob and lumping them together.

Hmmmm......4 of us born in the same year - and my mum thought she was giving me an unusual name........ :-S

I managed to read one page of postings, then everything went blurry and my eyes started to water, AGAIN.

i'm typing blind here, hope it makes sense.

too difficult for me to see, I'll look at GR once in a while, but if it's still like this in two weeks I',m [pulling the plug

??

I know Cynthia's post came up twice, but it really didn't need reporting, I am sure she would willingly have removed it on her return :-)

Cynthia

Many thanks for that-got the emoicons back :-)

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Aug 2012 16:55

You're welcome Elizabeth. It was Gins who first posted the advice so I can't take all the credit.... :-D

Just back from doctor's with OH to find a message from GR advising me that I have had a post removed. At least they told me which post it was.

Did someone actually RR it Rose? I had no idea it had posted twice because I logged out just after posting. Of course I would have removed it - I usually do if that happens. Also, it only usually happens when the site is slow to respond :-S

I guess someone doesn't like me......sob :-(

Rambling Report 2 Aug 2012 17:10

Yes Cynthia, I saw you had posted twice and then when I came back a bit later it has been 'requested for review' , most odd :-S

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Aug 2012 17:12

Cynthia, I doubt that it's someone who doesn't like you lol, just a thought that perhaps someone was testing out the rr on a duplicate post just to see if GR are hard at work? ;-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Aug 2012 17:35

In objecting to the brightness and colour scheme on the boards I am most certainly not objecting to change. As a retired civil servant I became more than adapted to change in my working life and realise that things would become stagnant without it. My objection is based purely and simply on the headache I get after being on here for fifteen minutes. Something that never happened before on here or on any other site. I actually dont have too much problem with text size though, just glare. And having reported this immediately I looked at the Beta site Ithought something might have been done about it.
I don't go on FR, is that the same colour scheme?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Aug 2012 18:49

Well Rose, whoever it was can just go and test on someone else - I have enough probs ;-) :-D

Don't know about FR Ann.....haven't been on there in yonks. Can't be bothered somehow...... :-S

I think SylviaInCanada has said it's pretty awful but I'm not sure why.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 2 Aug 2012 19:12

Well they have fixed it with a rather cool ivory white.

Here are some other sites which have made the same choice. It is boggling that they could not get this sorted in the first place. 0/10 for the visitors to Shoreditch and golden bananas too for the usual suspects. Anyway now we can move on to the next exciting event.

Like :-)

Rollo, I don't get Ivory white...not unless you know some odd elephants? lol

Just out of interest, in what shade do you see the words "single word search" under 'Quick Search'?

anyone?

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 2 Aug 2012 19:36

Yes Rollo I do fancy it is a tad less white and bright but I thought my sight was so impaired from yesterday that my eyes were deceiving me ;-)

I still think the tree colours are naff as are the twee girls and boys heads but as I hate the tree anyway it is less of a bother to me because I just don't look at it any more.

And I still don't think GR listen to anything anyone says - they just do their own thing and to Nick's homeplace with anyone else!
