LancashireAnn

I was told that by Phil Moir before last weekend, ie around the 24/25th

so they have been "considering" it for days and days.

I can see yet another series of complaint emails being sent re the background colour!

for those who have not seen it - this was on the announcements board on 2 Aug

"Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback on the new design. There has been a lots of positive feedback, but we have also identified that lots of members, particularly those who spend a lot of time on the boards, are finding the background a bit too bright.

We are, at this moment in time, reviewing the text colour, size and background. We have listened to your feedback and will be deciding what changes should be made over the next couple of days. Please be patient, all changes, however minor, need thorough implementation and testing.

We will keep you updated with progress and will inform you of changes we are making. "

I've been away for several days, and thus have returned to the site changes.

I was one of the ones asked to test the beta. site ...................... and my major complaint was the brightness of the background.

The pale grey is better than the first stark white colour ................... but i still find it far too bright.

It is most uncomfortable, especially for long term use.

And, I fear that GR and "the team" have paid no attention to all the complaints about it while we were stiil testing the beta site last week.

Old eyes are old eyes ............. and young people (ie, the programmers and developers) should pay attention to comments made by the people who have used this site for many years.

Unfortunately I renewed my sub just a few weeks ago, in the belief that the problems were being solved.

Problems with the site being solved doesn't help if I find the site very difficult to use.

thanks Cynthia

I must admit I preferred the darker screen but seem to remember reading a post from Phil a day or so ago saying that they are working on it.

The rest I am sure I will get used to - after all we have coped with several changes over the years, perhaps not always for the better but some systems analyst must have thought it worth while at the time.

Ann, IGP's comment was something on the lines of......

moan, moan, moan,.....too light...too dark....too bright....always the same ones who moan.....it will pass.....yawn yawn yawn.

That's an abbreviated version and, now this it's gone, I look as though I am talking to the invisible man. Ah well.....:-D

I used the new set up for the first time yesterday evening and couldn't find out how to use it great wasting time. I also liked the sex colours i.e. pink for females & blue for male, the background does not suite my eye sight or brainwaves either, if you cannot put back the old colour could you use a grey background please. (If it ain't broke why fix it. leave alone.)
I wish I had known you were going to change the format of the site I'd have gone with Ancestry as their site is in better shape and more understandable just an opinion.

When I was working, we had anti glare screens which clipped over the monitor. like sunglasses for pcs. They were intended to stop glare from outside the computer, such as sunlight, but I wonder if they would work in reverse

Oh dear oh dear, what on earth are GR doing, this new format is terrible, I am not sure that I will be using this site anymore, I much prefer the older site which showed the information all on the same page of each person, not in dribs and drabs like now. Whatever, did GR think they were doing, they will lose a few subscribers with this sort of site. :-S

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 4 Aug 2012 10:13

It is hard to remember but I am sure we were advised to take a break even if it was only to go to the coffee machine for the team or to do something which did not involve looking at the screen. I don't think it was for 10 mins though.

Mind you in those days we did sit further back from our screens as they were at the back of a fairly wide desk with the keyboard at the front. Eyes were a bit younger then too!

in the years I worked with computers, I don't think my employers would have appreciated me taking a 10-15 minute break every hour.

I have my monitor brightness at 44% and although it is better it is still bright.

DazedConfused

DazedConfused Report 3 Aug 2012 19:09

I would say to those who say they spend hours on here that it is always advised for all computer use that you take a 10/15 min break every 45mins.

That will help with sore eyes.

Does it all ways have updates on it ?

jax

jax Report 3 Aug 2012 18:30

As you only joined the site in August Daniel, I doubt whether you would have seen what it was like before.

Since the changes made a few days ago GR have toned down the brightness

daniel

daniel Report 3 Aug 2012 17:21

Why do you not like the way it is now then.? :-(
