We also seem to have a very small viewing area now. My laptop has a 23 x 30 cm screen. The work area available viewing any part of my tree is just 8cms x22cms (25%) and the green tree motif and navigation buttons obscure about 15% of this. You just can't get a decent view of the tree unless you zoom out to the point where you can't read the names! There is a large area of 4 cm below and 7 cms to the right which is just empty white space - this could add 15% to the viewing area. |

IMO, the space to the right is taken up by the profile page when opened. If the tree automatically opened with the target person centralised, the details on that would be obscured. |
