What I am trying to say,is not partial access to a tree and yes I do my own research,is that,as over the years,as a particular branch of a tree is added,to by finding new people and that a search is made of GR trees for that new person, the same tree owner name keeps appearing, that they have that name on there tree, and it shows dob & location,if you think this person is a relative please contact tree owner. So after a few years, you are revising details on the generations, for that branch of your tree, you have a note on each individual you have discovered,by your own research, that this person is also on the same tree.that you found by searching GR trees. So what is the difference, between, showing brief details of people on a particular tree, with the same surname and entering search details, for each individual. It is only a point of reference, that you have the same person, you are not getting any details, apart from birthplace and dob.

If it's the search tree's element as outlined by PP then why would you need to have partial access?

I understand that by using the search trees and contacting members for access is a useful tool but all info needs to be backed up with documentary evidence even when gained from another member

Any info gained from someone else's tree would need to be verified as correct so it would still require research to confirm that information is accurate

It would be far better just to do your own research in the first place

What you are suggesting sounds,to me,exactly like Hotmatches as they used to be.

What you are asking for I think is partial access to trees without the owners consent to verify any familial connection?

I know that on Ancestry (and Mundia) all their non-private trees will give anyone access, so I think that this is what you are hinting at?

Do not think that would go down well. I have removed my tree from this site and have a Private tree on Ancestry. There is no way I would want anyone to have any sort of access, albeit minor, to my tree without my permission.

And as DeT has said there are many and varied reasons for non replies. And this is a subject which has been done to death on the General Chat and Genealogy Chat boards on here.

My point is,is that I am researching 3 trees over the last few years and it would be useful, that as you find out more info and new additions to your tree and search GR trees, for that additional person, you find the same tree owner appearing over the years.but you know for whatever reason, you will not receive a reply. So when for example you enter search, for a particular person,it would list, the tree owner, shows previous contact and when click on to contact this member, have option to show what people, with same surname, that are on that tree,so it would give confirmation and possibly a clue to a new family member.

Not quite sure what point you are trying to get across Nick.

Is it the fact that the data base keeps searching for matches for the same individuals in your tree, rather than look for different relatives?

Or is that someone else also has the same names on theirs, as indicated by the matches?

You've acknowledged that there are various reason why they don't reply, but whilst their tree remains on this site, it is going to keep happening.

Be able to find what other individuals, same surname, that a tree holder has on there tree As I have found over the years, searching trees for a match to individuals,in my tree, that the same names, prior contact, keep reappearing, even though, there is no reply when contacted, for various reasons
