Suggestions

The list we get when finding tree matches (NOT hot matches) shows the person's name, and Yes or No, for previous contact. If we wish to view that person's tree we have to return to our tree and go through the list of Other Trees. I have 73 pages of other trees, so this takes some time! It is also difficult at times to find the trees of female members, who are listed with their married surname, but the tree is "owned" under their maiden name (or is it the other way around?).

I suggest GR makes an improvement to this search, by adding a View Tree to the match list contacts..... this would make it so much easier!

There are only two or three people that have access to my tree.

I wonder what name they have me listed as? on my tree I am down as various letters plus some Punctuation marks...and on the boards a completly made up name

We have to have permission from the tree owner before we can view another person's tree. If, when you find a match in Search Trees, there is a NO for previous contact, then that person will not be in your tree list. That should help a bit.


Glad you said that actually, I have pages of tree contacts - many of whom have nothing to do with me. They are from members who have given me permission to view their trees simply because I have answered a post on the board. A lot of us have that problem.

I think some pruning is needed........off to find my secateurs.

My list of other trees is alphabetical by first name, so it doesn't matter whether the owner is male or female.

I also have quite a lot of contacts whose trees I do not have access to, so your suggestion might be difficult to implement.

Part of this problem is that even if you delete these members (unwanted trees) from the my contacts list (although it says this hide all messages and will remove access to these shared tree's)

It does not remove access to these trees

They are still listed in the tree dashboard and can still be accessed

So clearly the system is not working as it should

The previous contact? include anyone you have ever sent or received a PM from/too

Maybe I didn't explain properly.

I'm talking about trees I already have access to.

I have 73 PAGES of contacts!! Not 73 contacts. It takes me a while to find who I'm looking for on those 73 pages. Example - I have access to trees belonging to over 35 Margarets, over 55 Johns etc etc!

My list is not in alphabetical order. I have 1, 2, 3, etc, up to 73!

When you send a contact message you see the person's surname. In the case of females, the surname on the contact message might NOT be the same surname as the "owner" of the tree.

I know what the YES and NO mean. What I'm suggesting is a "View Tree" next to the names with YES..... On the list we get when we look for tree matches.

If there was a "View Tree" option on the match listings, it would save a lot of time, not having to go back to my own tree and trying to figure out which (eg) Margaret's tree I'm looking for.

One aspect of the new tree that I particularly like is the list.

Where I have access to others trees that are particularly large I have never been able to find the connections.

Now I can

View other trees, click on lists, put it into alphabetical order and find my family names.

Then all I have to do is click on the person then on immediate family and hey presto find their place in the tree.

Before it was a nightmare trying to scroll up and down and find my relatives in other large trees and many a time I gave up.



Roy, yes that's a problem I found. I have literally thousands of contacts from folk who are not related to me and, whilst I can delete them and their messages, the trees of those who have allowed me unwanted access, stubbornly remain. :-(

Scozz, there are loads of useful tips in the FAQs section but none about deleting unwanted trees at the moment....... I must send a message ;-)

Cynthia - It's not searching another tree I'm talking about, it's finding the tree!

As I said, I have 73 PAGES of other trees!

For example - all the Margarets may be somewhere between pages 35 & 55....... then I have to figure out WHICH Margaret (the problem with Maiden & Married surnames).

Margaret is only an example.... I haven't even thought about the number of Jeans and Janes I have contact with.

What I mean is ~ if I did a search and found matches for my rellies, and saw (eg) Margaret or Jane with the same names, and there was a "View Tree" next to the YES, I could go straight to that tree, rather than going through my 73 pages.
