John

welcome to the Club for those who have been RR'd!

I could make a guess who RR'd you ............ but I won't :-D :-D

Thank you for defending PP and myself.

I give up what does RR mean

Yellow card, Ian. Have had two in just over a month. First was dismissed, because the opponent dived. This one has been upheld (abusive language to the ref). So it could be the old Steven Gerrard for me soon :-D :-D :-D

John

can you tell me .......... was my post RR'd when you saw it?

Don't be too hurt ........................ regulars get used to getting RR'd as part of the game :-D :-D :-D

Ian .........

RR is ............. Reported for Review

The button now says just Report (on the line with the poster's name and date)

It used to say Report for Review (or similar), which is why the old hands still say RR

When this happens, the post is removed immediately, and is replaced by an lin in italics which says something like "This post has been removed for review"

A living person at GR looks at it, and decides whether it is to be removed or not

Sylvia Your post? Had not realised you had been RR'd. Certainly not when I noticed mine had been RR'd. Yes, a real person looks at it. And sends a computer generated letter to the RR'd from no one warning me that further indiscretions will result in nails being removed. Perhaps it gets more personal if they decide a red card is in order. :-D :-D

Ian Report 12 Sep 2012 10:24

OK, thanks I understand now.

Sylvia you said "A living person at GR looks at it, and decides whether it is to be removed or not"

I don't think there are many of those at GR at the moment, or at least in the ITdepartment.

The Tree Dashboard.
Would it be possible for Genes to put the number of pages available at the TOP of the pane instead of at the BOTTOM where it is which have been shared. For ex if there are 20 trees per page and if there are 3 pages (Page 1 2 3) the person will know immediately that more than 20 different trees have been shared.

Maybe this has already been suggested and if so I apologise for not seeing it and causing repetition.

Catherine :-)

:-( Edit.
What a twit! If there are max. 20 trees / page and we know there are 3 pages the user will know immediately that more than **40** different trees havs been shared. (To arrivee at Page 3, the first 2 pages have to be full but all that is known before looking at Page 3 is there is at least 1 tree shared and no more than 20 trees. I hope that's clear(-ish)... :-S

This is the first time ive been able to come on genes for a while and was horrified to find the new tree layout. Ive been a member know for about a couple of years and have really progressed my tree and really found the old tree format very straight forward and comfortable to use. I dont think i will renew my membership. If its not broke , dont fix it, at least give the option of the old tree.....Steve :-( :-0 :-| :-\ :-S

Rude never.

It was for PP. For his reply to another posters comment was almost the same that i would get from the staff member.

Brian Report 13 Sep 2012 12:59

In the old tree format, changes were saved automatically. In the new format, when I make changes and click the Save button the changes appear to not always be saved. I have to physically move to display a different person, and then move back, to see if a change has been applied.

Some changes never seem to be applied - if I change a Surname to be all CAPITALS it will initially appear that way in the tree view, but as soon as I move to edit a different person the name reverts back to Initial Capital only. It was my intention to use all CAPITALS for blood relatives only.

Brian, I've had these two same problems and have reported them. I guess they will say it's a 'compatibility issue' - which seems to cover a multitude of sins for them.

Boring! Boring! Boring!

Thats how i view the New Tree Layout.
Slow....having to wait for the Bars to load up.
When i want to view a particular person in my Tree, a new window opens up....to the start....& the 1st Tree is still at where i last was when i did a search.
The Box on right with all my info, cannot view all my notes & the left boarder of it is cut off!

Why should i have to do this or that to compensate only to be told i'm so sorry for any inconvenience...well that doesn't help one iota.............Wake Up!!........

This has to be the biggest Mess Up in the 7yrs that i have been with Genes.

The Tree has to be user friendly to all, i mean do we all have to have the latest in Windows etc..........to be able to use it ! :-|

RolloTheRed Report 14 Sep 2012 08:06

The old tree did not save edits automatically.

Even Microsoft no longer supports IE8 (except for security patches).
Suggest that when Gru detects IE8 a warning is displayed:
"Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 8. You may not achieve an optimal experience with this browser. You may upgrade to a modern browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera at no cost".

Those using Win7 will have at least IE9.

I would prefer Gru to use its resources to fix issues too long waiting than pandering to IE8.

I am doing my best to try and use and live with this new tree,

I have just bought a new computer as my old was was getting slow and out of date.

Every site I go to is as quick as I could want except GR its painfully slow.

Please sort this out!!

Ian ..............

I hate to ask this, and I'm not being an apologist for GR

but .......

............... What browser are you using???

I use Mozilla Firefox .......... and the Boards move fast for me, most of the time.

There are stalls occasionally when it has to think about whether to post a message, or open a thread.

But, in the main, GR moves as fast as any other genealogical site that I go on ........ such as fmp, FTF, ancestry, etc.

I cannot say anything about how fast my tree moves as I no longer wok on it.

Sylvia, I think that's the whole point - you don't use the tree on here. Those of us who (try to) do find the new thing is a nightmare.

I've never spent so much time on the Boards before - I used to spend all my time building my tree. Now I spend just as much time here seeing what other tree-users are saying about this ghastly mess GR have imposed on us.

Oh, yes, the Boards work fast enough - it's just the tree that is quite useless.

And, yes, I use Firefox too - except that GR have just told me to start using Chrome to run my tree as they can't seem to get it to work with Firefox.... aaargh!

Ian

Ian Report 14 Sep 2012 23:02

Sylvia,

I have tried Firefox, Explorer Chrome and Safari, they are all the same I have also tried them on different computers.

It is slow when trying to view and enter details on my tree, in fact it has got even slower over the last couple of days.

There is no problem with speed when using the message boards.

Ian, can you say roughly how many people you have in your tree. Is it over 5000, if so is it over 20000?.

Iris Report 15 Sep 2012 22:12

I have been emailing Genes Reunited for a couple of weeks now as I hate the new tree they told me the old tree has been taken down. I also asked about the option of having capital letters I was told they would take on board what I have said but I do not think they will do anything, maybe if everyone who does not like the new tree sent an email they would do something, I doubt they look at this forum they also said a lot of people prefer this new tree.
