Jerry,

Yes, I've had those problems too.

Another odd one is that if you search for, say, Bruce Campbell you get no results, yet if you search for Campbell you get a long list, including Bruce...

Also... sometimes it will show an individual in the tree but not their spouce - but if you then search for the spouce, it finds them and shows them correctly attached to the original person you were viewing.

When searching my tree for a particular person I often get the message that there is no record of this person. I don't put a date of birth so I haven't made an error there.

It is always nonsense (no spelling mistakes , no other errors made by me) the person has ALWATS been on my tree on GR.

Just what is the problem?

Why am I being given incorrect info. ?

Sometimes I have more than one person with the name I am searching for, but GR can't find a record of any of them!!!!!

Simon Report 5 Apr 2013 12:28

Tess,

Try just searching for the person's surname. You should then get a list of all of the 'Smiths' (or whoever), from which you then need to click on the actual person you are looking for.

I have had the same problem you describe. It's another irritation of the now not-so new tree.

would like to be able to copy across another family tree by automatically clicking and not having to copy each relative across one by one.

I would like to suggest that we are able to update the Lifeline tab for each relative. It seems to update automatically with birth and children, but I would like to be able to add more detail here rather than in the small Notes section on the Details tab.

For example, when people moved house or key events in their life.

I do wish that people would add a message to the request to view my tree!!I find it most annoying that they do not even give a name that might be of relevance!!

My tree includes lots of Mac....... However some of the names are then spelt with a lower case letter ie Macon. My father spelt his "Macdonald" with a small D but the programme does not let you do this. Is there any way around this problem??

JerryH Report 3 May 2013 22:18

When searching for possible matches from my Tree I frequently find that I am re-visiting information discarded as irrelevent
(The numbers in the Purple Star)

Would it be possible to have a disregard/ignore tick box in the search results that if ticked, would reduce the numbers quoted in the Purple star and refrain from showing me again in the search results accessed from my tree?

Many thanks

Jeremy

Multiple Tree Options

I think it would be better to allow members more that one tree on here; with the glitches that seem to keep happening - especially loading large trees - it is frustrating trying to look for people when the list takes ages to load because there are so many names on it. Ancestry allows you to upload as many trees as you like - I think this would be a good feature on here. Then I could up load my 30 000 person tree in more digestible branches - I have had messages from people in the past who say they cant load my tree because it crashes their browser on an older computer.

Multiple trees please :-D
Cheers

Sorry but I have to agree with the comments on here regarding the new tree its not a patch on the old tree plus problems deleting or adding names doesnt always work .

Hello Jean

Genes is very bad with explanations, especially on these 'boards'.
I get the best response to problems from the 'team', and of course other Genes Subscribers.
When I had 'tree' problems a while back the 'team' explained that it would be "better" to try using a different browser, and suggested Google Chrome.
I did this and have a separate "Chrome icon" on my desktop for this Genes Site.
Everything else is still accessed as before from the Microsoft browser.

What this did for me was to put right all those little problems I had been experiencing with the tree. Today (fingers crossed) the tree works as it is supposed to and I could not seriously complain..........
I too liked the 'old tree' and would grab it if it came back - but it wont........
Embrace the change - ask the team if they think a change of browser might help you - you never know you could just solve all your problems quite simply.

Regards

PeeEmm :-)

I hadn't looked at Friends Reunited for over a year. When I did recently, my tree was on there in the old format ie dark green background, and blue and pink blocks for the sexes.
So is it really dead after all ???

This has probably been asked before, but if so, I can't find it, and obviously nothing has been done.

Re: "Tree Dashboard".

PLEASE make it possible to delete other people's trees from the "Trees Shared with Me" list on the "Tree Dashboard".

My list (now 76 trees) is cluttered up with trees shared by other people in the hope that we might be related, usually without my having requested it - only to find that we were not related in any way.

I've tried asking the tree owners, if they're still on my contacts list, to end the permission to view, but most never respond.
I've tried deleting the tree owners from my contact list - the contacts go, but the trees remain on the list, and available for me to view.

I look forward to seeing this in Natasha's "Suggestions Board Roundup" in the near future.

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problems I have when I am viewing my tree and want to scroll up or down etc. it hardly ever moves, when it does it is so slow then it seems to 'freeze' I have been in contact with GR in the past to ask about this problem, but their reply didn't really offer much help. That was a year or more ago and I am still experiencing this same problem. It's driving me crazy.
:-S
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?
Cheers

Hello KathyS

I have seen this problem mentioned before.
Some people view the whole tree and then try to move around in this mode, I think it works better and quicker if you are in the mode that only shows the immediate family. When I view the tree in this way I find it easy to 'step' backwards and forwards one generation at a time by clicking on the person at the top or someone down the bottom of the tree.
If you want to look at someone who is not in the immediate family, then I find it best to do a search for that person (top RH side of the screen) whilst you are in the immediate family mode. The name of the person you are interested in has to be 'typed' in the search box that comes up, then the person will be presented to you in the 'larger' size view, and you can then 'step' around as before.
I hope this helps, and that I'm not teaching grandma to suck eggs!!!!!!!!!!

Regards

PeeEmm :-)

I've been using Geni. To add a portrait to the name, you click once, your files are shown, you choose, open a photo and it's uploaded. Can the Genes system not be as simple?
