Free BMD is also updated from info provided by other genealogists around the globe, not just 'regular' transcribers.

For example, if you search the name Baggott, one of William the Conquerors sidemen, you will find records as recent as 1983.

Thanks for all your comment. but another point is im paying platinum membersjip for a service that was fantastic before and now doent work at all. Very disappointed with GR. Ive been doing my tree for 6 years and just plodding on with bits of research but spending most my time in last few days having to trawl through thousands of names to find the one im looking for because its now counties instead of towns.

I am a transcriber for FreeBMD - I'm currently adding 1960 marriages, September quarter but have access to other records still to be transcribed. If it's any help, send me the details and I'll try to find the records you're looking for.

Frree BDM doesnt go past the 40 s in most cases and ive just used myself as an example put my surname in and my mothers maiden name and came out with over a thousand possibilities and my surname is not a popular one. Im giving in after 6 years with GR im gonna look else where.

I just use FreeBMD

Their search engine is easy to use and you can set your own criteria.

Same with Ancestry.

Why have they changed the way we can Search for BDM. I need to search by town not county its taking absolutely ages to go through all the thousands of names and the birth cross reference with mothers maiden name doesnt even work.... so frustrated i could actually cry.
