Hi Rollo,

I have spoken to the tree team this morning who are now looking into why the full tree will not load. I am also aware that other views do not load either for some members. We have quite a few examples from members which will help the team work out why this has been happening.

I am sorry for the problems you have had, but we do hope to have this corrected soon.

Kind regards,

Estelle

Yeah, well, it still does not work - Full / Descendant / Ancestor / List all time out.

I very strongly suggest that Phil Moire is forbidden to make any changes / additions / modifications of any kind until all of the essentials in the darn thing works. He is far too fond of adding stuff that few people care about or need while core functionality is neglected.

In particular these boards should have a very low priority for software changes - only a tiny percentage of members ever use them, the tree is the main focus for the majority. At least KeepSafe can be regarded as part of core functionality ( fixing the hitherto very poor media support ) while most of the other twiddly bits are not.

Once GRU has a working system members should be able to stay with that version as long as they want until there is a stable update.

Any version with changes should be regarded as beta and members use it optionally if they so wish - this is exactly how Firefox does things for instance.

Whoever is responsible for testing needs some urgent retraining in basic principles of software QA. GRU seems to use methods mostly abandoned > 30 years ago based on suck-it-and-see.

thank you

Dear Rollo,
please accept my apologies for not replying to this sooner.
There was a problem with the list view, but this has now been fixed. I have requested that we be able to print out the list view, and this is something that is being looked at.
In the coming weeks we hope to be releasing some different views of the tree, which I hope you will like. You might find it is more useful than the full view. With a really large tree the full view can actually be unwieldy and hard to navigate. You shouldn't have problems with the ancestors or descendants view though. If you, then please let me know and I'll be happy to take a look.

Kind regards,

Estelle

Dear Estelle,

re: http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/suggestions/thread/1312830?d=desc

If you are indeed sorry that various aspects of the tree are broken, especially list view and with trees > 3 500 people full view, ancestor view, descendant view, then why in more than three weeks has nothing been done to fix it?

Why is it that list view cannot be printed or at least exported to a csv file ?

I think members are pretty tired of issues being "flagged" etc for the development team.

Vastly unamused.
