When Messaging Members

I have only had two that were never opened out of my 3000+ sent messages

One was to my dad and the other to my daughter....maybe they saw the email from GR saying there was a message from Jax Chan and ignored it as they would'nt know that was me.

Of course it did'nt bother me as we are in regular contact anyway....just thought I would try the messaging system to see if I got a reply

Just checked my last 200 sent messages and a smidgeon over 10% were never opened.

So a near 90% success rate doesn't sound too bad.

John

if you send a pm to any member, free or paying, GR sends an email to them to notify that they have a message from a member on site.

The problem that arises is that GR uses the home email address given by the member ................ and depends on members updating when they change their email addresses.

If any member, paid or free, has changed the email address that they had when first joining GR and has not notified GR of the new address, then they will not get the notification.

I think this could be a larger problem than we realise ...............

Plus, you also have to remember that trees cannot be removed from the site other than by GR or the owner of the tree.

Thus, if someone dies, becomes incapacitated, or loses interest in family history and does not remove his/her tree OR has not given the password to a family member to allow someone else to delete the tree .......................... then we are left trying to make contact with someone who is not "there".

Do you check your Sent list to see if your message has been opened??

A green envelope indicates an unopened message, no envelope indicates the message has been opened and read.

A green arrow means that the message has been answered.

Going back to the OP, I'm not altogether sure what time is likely to be saved.

I have many Standard Members in my Contacts list and whilst they can't view my tree, I can see theirs (if they wish, that is), we can message each other and I can send them attachments of what they are interested in.

Doesn't and envelope appear on their homepage next to the 'messages' on the top of the page?

Cannot remember sorry :-D

Hi John,

A non paying or a free member can reply to messages that are sent by you. They can't initiate messages at all.

I always put in my messages that even if they aren't a paid up member they can still reply to my messages without having to pay.

Is there a way of letting payed members know ,that they are messaging non payed members,as it would save so much time.Thankyou
John Suckling.
