Change to order of Boards

Could the order of the Boards, both under the Community heading and on the Boards Summary be changed so that Find Ancestors, Genealogy Chat and Find Living Ancestors are the first in the lists. After all this is a Genealogy site and new members might be confused to find Quizzes and Games seemingly higher up the list than the Genealogy boards.

It is probably fairly a trivial job to change the order but the wider issue is in deciding what sequence they should be in as not everyone will have the same opinion.

There is also one missing from the list on the left and in the drop down menu at the top of the screen, namely WDYTYA Live Requests

Any change also needs to reflected in three places:-

Boards List
Community drop down menu

Alphabetical order would make sense.

Also being able to 'select all boards' when doing an advanced search and/or having those in alphabetical order also.

They are not going to change anything - GR's mind set in stone

Always wonder who thought up Quizzes - does anybody really use that board - I've never even been there.

Did ask the question but the answer I got isn't worth commenting on.

The Quiz board was instituted on request NanaSue, a fair while (1 or 2 years?) back.

There were so many quiz type threads on the General chat board ( after the merging of the original General and Chat boards) that it was hard going to wade through them to find any 'ordinary' threads and as the 'A to Z' threads tended to be added to often they tended to take over page 1.

edit: yes people use the board, there are replies on a number of the threads today, some of which have been running for years.

RR

you're right, the Quiz Board was instituted about 2 years ago ......................

a lot of people used to enjoy the various quiz threads, but they did clutter up the General Chat Board, so the Quiz Board was set up in response to the members' demand to continue with quizzes, yet not have them so prominent on a Board where others did not want to see them.

NanaSue ................ remember there are a LOT of people on GR who joined in the very early days, 2002 and 2003, did their trees, but also started chatting to each other.

It was free to join in the early days, then subscriptions were added after the first Board was begun. I believe that it was in fact one "catch-all" Board to ask questions about genealogy. But people also began chatting to each other ................. and other Boards were gradually started by GR.

Many of those people made friends with each other, and still pay their subscription when all they want to do is chat to each other. Their trees are complete, but they have made friendships over the years.

Plus, this is a much safer site than many others in which to chat, purely and simply because one has to pay in order to post. So troublemakers are generally absent ............... they became very common on GR's sister site, Friends Reunited, became a free site back in 2007.

And I say "safer" despite the fact that we all know know, and should understand ................ that everything posted on GR may well be picked up by Google within seconds, and disseminated across the internet.
