Genes said they would fix the wording on first contact message that is sent, for it asks to see some ones tree before indicating what there inquiry is about.
It assumes precontact has been made.
The auto wording should be removed so that the person making the inquiry enters the details so that the person receiving it knows what they are referring to.
"Subject: Request to View Your Tree"
"Please would you give me access to view your tree?"
It is customary when making contact with a potential tree owner to break the ice, most members provide a few details about the relation they think they have in common e.g. who they married or when they were born.
Giving extra information about your relation will really help the other member uncover whether their relation does match yours.
I got a message from GR saying they would be changing this.... I think I got that message in February (this year :-D).
Like everything else, they are "looking into it"
I got a Request yesterday about a James "X", who had a son John. I replied that I had 10 James "X" on my tree, could I have more information please, ie place & approximate year of birth. Reply said something like "I thought you would know who I meant, and how am I supposed to know you had 10 of them".
Almost ready to completely ignore these messages. Some of the responses I've had from people have been downright rude! And.........They seem to think that because they are paid-up members they have the RIGHT to view a tree....... they send a Request, but don't give access to their tree!
Come on GR, DO WHAT YOU PROMISED!!!!!!!!!
AND........ Put something on the main page, advising new members to give as much information as possible when they contact another member.
Why was it put there in the first place then?
Estelle seemed to think it should not have been there .....did some programmer think it was a good idea and added it without asking??
This message has been showing there since October...we were told in February it would be removed...it is now July
If in real life someone says they will do something...I wouldn't expect to wait six months for it to happen
For me personally I don't care as I would not share my tree with anyone....not that it would be worth looking at...but new members who are actually looking for living people, think that's the only way to contact someone
response from July 5 ..............

5th July 2013 – A roundup of the latest suggestions from the Suggestions Board:
• Changing the wording in the first contact message, people need to send as much information as possible, the way it is currently worded does not work.
- This is something we are aware of and we are really sorry for the delay in changing this. This will be changed soon; it has been made it a priority.
You may wish to look at the following, for it is no good trying to get a look in on this site. It requires a public arena.
I must be invisible!
No i did not ignore you when i was typing my reply your post was not there.
i only found out after but in any case you will see that the reply is the same.
Dont take it to hard, i will get a hankie out for you. And sends some flowers if it makes you feel better.
IGP .............. I HAD noticed that the dates of the two posts were very close together, you might note that I had waited about 3/4 hour before my jokey response!
Not sure that your duplicate posting was necessary, though :-D
If you have a announcement and you place it on the post outside your house who sees it ?
Only those who pass it.
The wider the exposure the wider those viewing.
It like Genes they make promises but don’t keep them but if you highlight them so a larger number of people see there misgivings they may think twice and do something about it.
