Sorry, not workable.

It is unreasonable to expect the GR person tasked with checking an RR'd posting to consider anything other than infringement reported by the reporter.

What happens if the post is reinstated and another member then wants to report a different but perhaps more serious infringement of the posting guidelines?

As I have said these boards are not all about chatting and telling jokes....it is a genealogy site.

If GR want to promote this site as a place to look for living relatives, they should also protect those whose personal details are being posted without their knowledge.

Why should we have to mess about contacting them if they cant be bothered to review it properly in the first place. In the case of my example above the lady did not have a common name and was easily found...had that thread been about me I too would be found easily as there is only one person born with my name in the UK and I would not have been happy if my children had come across it.

If GR provided moderators maybe the boards would run more smoothly, after all free sites have them then why should'nt this one have them?

:-D

I'm happy, they are considering it

:-D

I'll be even happier when it happens!

:-D

As the ad says......... it won't happen overnight, but it will happen :-)

If a reinstated post offends another person, they can contact GR and give their Rreasons.

Sorry Sylvia I may have edited while you were typing :-D

It, of course, is against GR's own T&C's to post email addresses!

They SAY such information will be removed .........

......... so they broke their own T&C's when they reinstated the post after your RR :-D

I wonder what would have happened if you had said the reason for RR was "breaking GR T&C" ?????????

Sorry,It is not a good suggestion...these boards are not only about people chatting and argueing with each other

What about the thread I reported which gave a lot of info about a birth mother who did not know she was being talked about....which had to be reported twice for the GR team to actually read it

Edit

This is what I reported and GR's reply....so are we saying as GR said it was ok we should then leave it?? The lady had an unusual name so her marriage, address ect was easily found....wonder if her two children knew their mum had had a child as a teenager?

Dear jax

You recently submitted a message board response for review giving the reason Data Protection.

The text that you reported was as follows;

Message Board Response Long shot but looking for birth niece/nephew born around 1962-4 Leeds or Bradford mother and baby home. Birth mother surname (full name of person). Please message me.
We have have decided that this can remain on our message boards as there is nothing directly offensive or hateful about this particular post.

As you know, you do have the ability to report any individual post which breach the terms and conditions of our website but please do take care to only report genuinely offensive or hateful posts.

Your co-operation is appreciated.

Community Advisor Report 3 Sep 2013 10:03

3rd September 2013 – A round-up of the latest suggestions from the Suggestions Board:

• When a post has been reported, and GR have reviewed it, and returned it to the board, could something be done to make sure the post cannot be reported again?
- Good suggestion. I will speak to the technical team to see if this is possible.

The last time I reported a thread which I do not do very often it was reinstated,

I had reported this thread giving the reason "Data Protection" It was also highly unlikely that the poster was going to return as it was posted during the "Free" 18 hours GR gave recently.

Anyway I received the normal email saying they felt it could stay as it was not "Hateful and offensive" :-D

Someone else then reported it and it was removed....I asked why they hadn't removed it when I reported it...all I got was we had another look and it did breach the T&C's

Of course it did.....maybe if they had read it and attached the correct reply they would of seen that...so I have now lost any little faith I did have in this company

We all know from experience that there is someone on here who RR's threads that are in no way offensive.

We all understand that what is not offensive to one person, may be so to another.

But once a thread is deemed to be fine by GR then that should be the end of it.

And remember if you do RR a thread you do have to state why you think it is offensive, you do not just push a button and that is the end of it.

AmazingGrace08

AmazingGrace08 Report 28 Aug 2013 11:04

My only concern with that is that someone else may find something genuinely offensive etc and they have a right to request that GR look at it. For instance you may disagree with something someone has written, you RR it, GR decide to reinstate it, I come along and feel that it was say a genuine breach of privacy and RR the thread. I know this situation has happened...and the thread did contain sensitive information and GR acknowledged that it should have been removed after the first reporting.

I do agree that the same person should not be allowed to report postings just for the sake of it unless the thread content is of a nature that is against the terms and conditions such as name calling, swearing etc. If it just because they are being malicious, I am not sure what should happen to them - lengthy GR suspension etc???

Just my opinion though :-)

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Aug 2013 09:52

I agree with LadyScozz - it is a ridiculous situation that after a post has been reported, reviewed, and after being reviewed, it is reinstated, that the post can then be reported again, and again, and again, often I believe by the person who originally reported it.

This to me says someone is being deliberately malicious and spiteful with the sole aim of causing disruption by winding people up, it also makes GR look stupid, so please consider the suggestion made by LadyScozz.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 28 Aug 2013 06:15

When a post has been reported, and GR have reviewed it, and returned it to the board, could something (ANYTHING!?) be done to make sure the post cannot be reported again?

This may stop the annoying repeat of reports, and let the annoying person know they cannot keep doing this!

I'm sure the GR staff have better things to do with their time than keep reviewing the same posts.

:-)
