Hi Mike,
I havent been in a long while, and hope you are feeling like your "old self" again!
I am trying to help a lady with "Fox" from Leicester and was wondering if you could find something for me?

Oliver Fox-born 1797-1798 Leicester and married to Ann ? who was born 1800 -Spondon Derby
Is there a maiden name for Ann?
Also their son, Robert Fox born 1825, no marriage found, but shows him as a widower in 1851 census-29 Grandby St. Leicester
and his father and Ann at 33 Granby St.
Can you find a marriage for him?

I would also like to know if Oliver had siblings, and Robert also.
Thank you, Houdini Mike (my name for you because of how you find so much, lol)

Hope your day is a good one, from across the pond
Carol in Ontario!

Thanks very much for the look-up, Mike - pity the marriage wasn't by licence :-)

MaryfromItaly

MaryfromItaly Report 8 Jul 2008 21:17

No problem - it's an unusual name, so it tends to jump off the page at you while you're searching.

Marriage

21 (?) October 1813.
Samuel Eld, bachelor of this parish and Ruth Day, spinster of this parish were married by banns.
Both parties signed.
Witnesses: Richard Stringer*, Thos. Eld and Mary Crosland (?)

* probably a professional witness or church functionary, because he witnessed numerous marriages

Baptism:

29 April 1813.
Ann, daughter of Joseph and Ann Eld.
Abode: Belgrave Gate**.
Father's occupation: gardener.

** I get the impression from the register that this may be just the general area, not the exact address - Belgrave Gate appears numerous times, and smaller streets don't.

These details are taken from the bishop's transcripts, because the PRs haven't been filmed.

Elaine, while I was trawling St. Margaret's BTs at the LDS centre the other day I found a couple of Elds:

- Samuel Eld married Ruth Day in 1813

- Ann Eld daughter of Joseph and Ann baptised 1813.

Do you want me to post the details, or do you already have them?

Sorry to hear you haven't been well, Mike - I noticed you hadn't been around lately. Hope you're OK now.

No rush for the lookup - don't make a special trip to the RO on my account if you're not feeling up to it.

Hi Mike,

Have you been off on holiday?

I managed to pay a flying visit to the Records Office in Wigston when I was in England briefly last week, and found a will that throws up more questions than it solves (for John Pool, butcher of Barlestone, who died in 1803).

Could you check out the following marriage for me, found on the IGI, if you have time?

Hannah Poole married John Sutton at Barlestone on 3rd February 1791.

If it was by licence, I should be very interested in the details of the bond.

This Hannah was the daughter of the John Pool who left the will; I think he must be the same John Pool who married Rebecca Fowkes in Earl Shilton in 1775 (you found the marriage for me a while ago), but I'm looking for confirmation, because I can't find all the children named in the will on the IGI or on the censuses.

Thanks a lot,
Mary

Hello Mike

That would be wonderful if you could check the marriage details for me.

In the 1861 census Mary is living with mother Mary and Arthur Hall b1859. I have presumed (which I know is dangerous, never presume anything unless proved) that Arthur is Mary's illegitimate son. He is listed as Mary Sr's Grandson.

In the 1871 census Arthur is 12 and a farm servant so no longer with his mother.

If you have time could you please see if Arthur is listed as being baseborn. According to the census details he was born in Belton in 1859 but I am having trouble finding his birth registration. The only one I can find in the area is in 1858 in Loughborough for a William Arthur Hall.

Thank you again for all your help.

Thank you so much Mike.

As usual you have done it again!! I didn't see that one at all!

I will get the death cert and see who the informant is. I know one of her daughters, Hannah who married Frederick Perry, lived in Whitwick and I think the other daughter Mary may also live there. Not sure who she married I think it could be Joseph Hopkinson. Have to be patient and wait for the cert!!

Thank you again
