I have been having a look through the old enquiries on this Thread....since 2008..and have realised that i now have far more information......and many of these old unanswered or partially answered questions, might be resolved further if any of my old contacts are still around..

Hello Margaret.......I think i have to start again on this one....I rememeber that \\i could find neither death in the PR's when I looked at Matlock.

The Civil registration of a death for MARY WOOD July 1861.still stands as my only clue, and I cannot find anything for Joseph......

You're right Robert Crossland 28.07.1800 Glossop son of James and Nancy..did not marry Mary Wild..in fact never married..and neither did at least three of his siblings.

What we DO know..direct from the Glossop parish records (my copy ends at 1850) is as follows........

JEREMIAH WILD son of Mary Wild baptised 27.02.1831.....no real evidence that Robert was his father......he went on to marry and had children as late as 1891........

MARY WILD was as \i said before born 1805....the Pr's say All saint's Glossop..another Source says Padfield...you know the area better than i do......

JOSEPH WOOD was born 20.0.1797 son of Thomas and Mary..and his father Thomas was one of the witnesses at Joseph's marriage to Mary Wild 27.02.181......

They had three children:-......Robert 18.10.1836....James 1839 (can't find his baptism but he is on the 1841 Census with his mother and brother)..and Betty 09.02.1845..who died in 1901.

I think the only way to find out the truth is to get the death Certificate for Mary 1861..and see what names appear on that document.

I am at the moment searching the surrounding village which made up the old parish of Glossop......

more soon..
EDIT..by the way MARY WILD born 08.06.1805 baptised 09.07.1805 was the daughter of Jeremiah and hannah.

Hi Derek

Happy New Year, if a bit late. Good news, I am going to be a granny in June. Think I might be called Granny Meg.

Re-found the thread. Mary Wood, nee Wild is still ongoing with me.

Any evidence of a marriage with Robert Crossland?

Any idea where she was buried on death in 1861 - or Joseph's death in 1851? They married at All Saints C of E, Old Glossop. On your next visit to Matlock could you please check out those two deaths, and possible burials.

Mary Wild is not my personal ancestor but that of a more distant relative, whose wife has just been diagnosed with cancer. He is trying to take his mind off things, so finding a burial place for Mary would be fantastic news for him. A visit to Seattle is included if you can find it, plus a bottle of Malt.

Love

Margaret

Hello everyone.....since this Board became a "Genealogy Chat" Board, I think this Thread has become redundant..particularly as it is essentially a "Look-up" |Thread..and no longer strictly speaking allowed any more on this Board.
My many friends/adherents/buddies/sparring partners and fans will be aware of my thread on "Find Ancestors"..and know where to find me.
So I think a few days advance warning of the deletion of this Thread is in order.

Derek.

Derek, very interesting. You have no right going on holiday, but I was on holiday too.

Your searching was clearly for me. A few questions. Where did you find all this if not a Matlock? Do you have a marriage date for the marriage to Robert Crossland, cos according to me Jeremiah was baptised Wild on 3 Feb 1828, though on his marriage he states his father as Robert Crossland. Me and my cronies have not located a marriage to Robert Crossland. Robert continues life as an apparent bachelor until his death in (oops forgotten, but some years later).

Yes, she married Joseph Wood, we didn't have the exact date, thanks. Yes, the three children are correct. Didn't find Joseph's death in 1851, ta. Nor Mary's death in Sep Qtr 1861. So where is she on the 1861 census?

My rellie who is really interested in this branch likes facts and references, if you have any please.

Many thanks

Margaret

Hello Margaret..have been in Scotland for a week on holiday...
This mary Wild thing is bugging me a bit because \i have done quite a bit of work on this..and if it's not for you then i don,t know who it was for.....\howver, here is what \i have..and \i've not been to \matlock ofr a while..so I'll not confirm it till I go........

MARY WILD born Padfield Glossop 08.06.1805 baptised there 09.07.1805........married ROBERT CROSSLAND (born 28.07.1800)..and had one son JEREMIAH CROSSLAND 1827-1891
Robert died 1831
She married JOSEPH WOOD 27.02.1831..witnesses Thomas Wood and Robert Winterbottom....and had three children..Robert 1836..James 1839..Betty 1844-1901.......no suggestion that any of them were illegitimate...but then my information is partial....including the death of Joseph at Glossop April 1851..have found her and Joseph on the 1841 Census at Glossop with Robert and james.........and again.in 1851 living with a large family as a "relative" with Robert and Betty..............she was "apparently " buried \g\lossop 1861 aged 56...

Hope this helps a bit.......

Derek xx

Derek

Hope you've not forgotten the death of Mary Wood, b abt,1805. Found as widow in 1851 in Glossop bargaretut no sign in 1861.
Her maiden name was Wild. Her husband Joseph has no known deeath, but not worried too much about him cos he wasn't the father of my ancestor, her illegitimate first child.

hi Gooner.this is all very annoying....because i have skirted all round this one........WILLIAM HIBBERT baptised Repton..married Mary Allcock of Boylestone in Repton..I have his parents and siblings....and i have umpteen siblings of Mary at Boylestone...

Then we go to the Census returns.......William from Milton..ok thats repton..but in 1871 both he and Mary and his family are all living in and come from Bilston Wolverhampton..but in 1861 the details are more or less as we'd expect...Boylestone could be Bilston..Bilston could be Hilton or Milton!!.....and Hibbert is hebbert!!
Can you confirm that the children of William and Mary are HARRIET>>GEORGE>>JOSEPH>>WILLIAM and HENRY?..and that William Senior is nine years younger than Mary???

..and why do we have William Hibbert and Mary Ann Hibbert and henry Hibbert..all born Bilston and living in Bilston? in 1881

Clearly I've either got the wrong family in 1871...or summat's up!!

Can find no trace of mary's death..though there are one or two between 1871 and 1881..I think she re-married........but god knows where or to whom....

Help!!!

Derek.
