Inky

as far as I know, I have never seen Ron and Carol advertise on GR's boards.

They do usually have a stand at WDYTYA shows, and at some local Family History shows.

They were very active on the Boards when I first joined, and occasionally still post.

Some members have met them at the shows, many more have used their company .................... the information has been spread mainly by word of mouth on GR by members who have used them and been happy with the results.

I personally thought it disgusting that the post the other night that give the web address for them was reported by someone.

Just as I thought it was pretty rotten of GR to have ignored them when they "anointed" another company re printing.

regarding posting anything complimentary about Ancestry .................

one member who no longer posts, spent much time earlier this year reporting ANY post that mentioned Ancestry

That led to much angst, as you might imagine ................ but it also led several people to ask GR to clearly state its policy re referring to other sites on here.

In my own words ............. they clearly said, there is nothing wrong with mentioning any site, or giving the link, as long as we are not derogatory about them, and do NOT compare GR with another site in a derogatory manner. :-D

JKM & SC

Thanks for the info. Having checked my emails, my first contact/business with that company was in September 2009. So they have been around for a while. And I did not know that they have their own GR membership. I added that rider in case anyone thought that it was my own company. But there surely can be no objection by GR if they do not directly post about their own services?

As to the possibility of GR removing my post. I was merely stating facts - I do use that company, and to date I am satisfied. If GR object to that, then woe betide any member who posts anything complementary about Ancestry...................

be warned

another member had a post removed overnight because they posted that same link to Ron and Carol's company :-(

As quoted by the previous poster:

Ron and Carol, members of GR, who post from time to time about family history fairs.

Hmmm. Beardshaw/Tony or whatever his name is posted the same link (to the GR thread) as I did two weeks earlier (23Oct). My point was that GR are unlikely to be upgrading any print routine – and that point was in response to the OP question.

Like other members I object to “self advertising”. Also, I guess that I am not the only member who has made use of outside companies to get large format printing done.

So, this is the company that I have used, and I was very satisfied with their service:-

www.genealogyprinters.com

I don’t know if the owner(s) have anything to do with GR.

and members are objecting to this form of advertising!

I think you will find that Tony has a dedicated GR tree printing page on his web site and is also the company recomended by GR on the announcements board so he is probably an affiliate of GR

Probably not getting the volume of business he expected from the deal and decided to post directly on the boards

Tony is advertising his own company!

This is against the T&Cs of GR

Otherwise, another member who has been VERY active on GR over the years as an ordinary member, would be able to advertise his company's work in this area.

Tony

Was it relevant to dig up an old thread which was about printing your tree off GR

Are you going to drag up anymore?

Oh er, I only made a comment, not a critiscism.....

Never used the advanced search facility.

Finalfinal post from me on this thread.

Seems to me that Genes will never develop a decent tree printing process.

Well said.

No one 'owns' a thread - it is there for anyone who cares to read it and add to it as they choose.

In any event, most threads move on from what the op has posted so if someone decides to add to it then so what.

Old threads are always being dug up DC...mainly by new members

If you ever ventured onto the Find ancestors board you may notice them

As this is a request for help with printing a tree, I cannot see that there is a problem as the question is not directed at the OP

Inky1

Inky1 Report 22 Oct 2013 16:43

DC,

But have they been dug up by different members? If so....

I do not spend hours going through old threads, but I do use the advanced search process. And that process pulls out all relevant threads irrespective of age. Generally I get the info that I was seeking. But any posting made would of course nudge the thread, and may generate further responses.

Who spends hours going through all the old threads!!!!

Some have recently been dug up that are over 5 years old.....

Lynette - as you can see by the dates on this thread, there have been problems printing out the tree for a number of years.

To be perfectly honest, even with 274 individuals it would take many pages of A4 paper and a VERY large space to lay it all out to tape together.

Years ago, when mine consisted of under a hundred people, the print out took about 20 sheets of A4 :-0

Lynette

Lynette Report 21 Oct 2013 19:11

Well I only have 274 individuals in my tree and GR will not allow me to print my whole tree. This is quite frustrating and a remedy 'quick-time' will be invaluable.
