Re. looking at all my certificates................
My father Alfred Thomas Powell married Ada May Alderson 1927 in Bradford.
Ada May gave her age as 18......which we now know may have been 17 ie 1909. Ada states her father Thomas as being deceased.
the certificate is signed Ada May Alderson.
The death certificate of Sarah Jane Thurlby formerly Alderson 1933 in Crook. Co.Durham.Informant A.Powell daughter present at time of death living 16 Midland Terrace. Bradford.. My late sister who would have been 6 at this time
always told us that mum came from Billie Row. Crook. and I now think that possible my sister was with my mother at this time ?
I have traced and spoken with the children of John and Rachel Thurlby.
and the daughter remembers her mother, always referred to Ada as Ada May.I have Thomas William Alderson and Sarah Jane's marriage certificate 1909 The Registry Office. Auckland.

I am having difficulty finding your fathers birth registration details where was he born?, there is nothing for bradford under the name of alfred thomas powell or alfred powell around 1903 on free bmd .

I will send for the Jones / Barker / Alderson death certificate ...........
I need to know ? don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth.........

I don't have a death certificate for Thomas William Alderson
I can't trace one. Thomas was alive in 1911 as he is on the 1911census.
staying/living with his parents William and Mary at 3 Bowden Yard. Willington.Durham.I have looked between 1911 - 1918 as Sarah Jane Alderson remarried Joseph Thurlby in 1918. THEN I found 2 siblings
Rachel born 1916 and John 1917. SO i presume that Thomas died ????
prior to 1916............. could he have died in World War 1 ??????????

Corinne, I haven't even thought about Alfred Thomas Powell's family - was concentrating on Margaret's wish to find out what happened to her mother. You've not lost the plot, Margaret has made a few mistakes in some of her postings with all the fellas called Thomas something or something Thomas, so stick with us.

I checked the Commonwealth Graves Commission website - there are only 10 Thomas Aldersons listed dying in WW1, none with middle name William. A high proportion served with a Durham force, but most were too young to be "our" Thomas. There were however a few with no age given, but none with the parents that Margaret thinks she has identified in 1911, and from his marriage certificate. Maybe he went off to war and simply didn't come back - or didn't come back to his wife. It happened.

Yes Margaret, afraid you have to get that death cert. It might prove I am an idiot and have cost you money, for which I am sorry, but sometimes it has to be done to eliminate possibilities. I have 6 death certs for my John Kelly, and none are right.

We want the death cert to say she was born in Durham at least.

Incidentally, what was wrong with the death cert of Ada May Powell who died in - forgotten, but down south, like Torquay or similar area? That birth date was alarmingly similar to the one your sister remembers. Give us the details of it please.

Margaret has sent me the marriage of Ada Margaret to Fred Barker. Nothing really to report.

The death certificate of Ada May Powell in St Austell. Cornwall was incorrect.
Ada was born in cornwall and the father was named Patterson.
I was so dissapointed- I felt I had at last found Ada May, that I destroyed it.

If that is the one who married John A Jones, whose father was Alfred Thomas Alderson, then I cannot find a marriage of such a man to a woman with the surname Pattison.

So forget it.

Hi Margaret.

Just an idea have you searched to see if there are any "wills" from your dad, grandparents etc in case your mother is mentioned in them. If you haven,t got them it may be worth going down this avenue too. Keep smiling and never give up you will find her.

Hello Margaret. There are probably lots of people following your thread but not posting as they haven't found anything new (like me)!

If anyone lives in the area perhaps they could check out the Crook war memorial to see if your grandfather Thomas William Alderson is on it???
