After reading Carol's post I thought great Hot Matches after all time. So I had a look and nothing. Now I feel really left out.

I understand that but I am paying to be able to make contact with people but if I am not getting any hot matches and can't make contacts what am I paying for????

Karen,

HotMatches are part of the service available to all members, including those Free Members who don't pay a subscription.

Dizzy600 Report 6 Sep 2011 16:19

I haven't had any new hot matches for at least 18 months now and am totally fed-up!!! Don't get a reasonable response to my emails either. My suscription is due at the end of this month but don't think I will be renewing (have been a member for six years). And have read there is a price increase! How they can charge more for an inferior service is beyond me. :-S
Having read another thread on this I haven't even seen the 'new look hot matches'.
I am not a happy bunny.

Jenpen Report 6 Sep 2011 15:02

A couple of days ago I did receive hot matches, only to discover there were only 2 new entries. These were the first hot matches I have received since the beginning of June, a gap of 3 months. I think I only received hot matches once before that this year.
My cousin only joined Gr a few months ago, and he has also not received any hot matches for at least 3 months That is even more surprising for a new member who must have a lot more hot matches than are showing. In fact he has less hot matches in common with me than I have in common with him, which just does not make sense at all.
I realise some members disliked having so many hot matches which were not hot matches. But now none of us get any hot matches at all effectively, and there are obviously quite a few members who miss them.
I would have thought the technical guys at GR could come up with a way to allow members to choose which system of hot matches they preferred

When will Hot Matching be reinstated? I've added quite a few new people to my tree recently and would like to see if there are any new links - it's a bit frustrating, after all they used to be updated pretty regularly.

Carol.
Have already commented on another thread.
Having had no Hot Matches since January, got a message from Genes this am to say I had new ones.
Almost got excited until I discovered that all 3 were from existing contacts.
Still, I suppose I can´t truthfully say I haven´t had any since January.
By coincidence I have just met a 3rd cousin for the first time this weekend.
She was originally a "Hot Match"

Have a look at this thread on Suggestions

GR reported - on the 2nd Sept - that they were dealing with some issues they had identified.

Well September now and still have not had any HOT MATCHES this year

I have over a thousand names on my tree so would expect at leat 10
I used to find them helpful even though a lot were no good

Hubby meet a cousion we didn't even know existed through hotmatches

I have loads of contacts through hotmatches which have helped me and I have been able to help them But what's happened?

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 22 Jul 2011 09:24

Yes I'm only seeing surnames near the start of the alphabet too. But, as I have said before, the system only looks at a handful of your names (100 I, believe) each time it runs the HotMatch check, so it can take some time before it has gone through your entire tree.

Personally it can't get too worked up. I do most of my searching and matching myself, but it can be an added bonus when HM's turn up a contact I am not already aware of.

Patricia Report 21 Jul 2011 19:24

IGP, up to when I replaced an old tree with a new one I had no problems as I had hot matches from all surnames.

Strangely I did that about the same time GR also changed the way they did hot matches and since then I have had only matches from surnames beginning with A and B and I KNOW there were other matches as I had made contacts.

Andrew Report 21 Jul 2011 19:16

I to have 15 pages of hot matches. Trouble is I've been through about 5 pages of them and discarded loads......and I've still got 15 pages left!!!!!

Any ideas anyone??

Still waiting nearly August now would be nice to get at least 1 this year

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 14 Jul 2011 09:03

Perhaps the reason you aren't getting any now is simply that there aren't any.....They can't simply be magiced out of thin air......!

I am getting some and there does seem to be matching on place name variations too. However, most are with members I already am in contact with and who are researching the same family branches as I am.

Kense Report 14 Jul 2011 08:37

Susan, That was a fault that existed for a few days where we all (I think) had fifteen pages of discarded hot matches visible but couldn't access them. That fault is now fixed.

Carol, if you had 10% of your hot matches that were true matches then you were fortunate. I used to get about five pages worth (approx 100) and would reject all but one or two that might have been just possible. Now that they match on place of birth, it is not surprising that there are usually no matches. It depends on how clever the software is at recognising place names as being the same.

I wonder if the software finds the first 100 matches as before and then applies the PoB checks, in which case the problem might be that as the incorrect matches don't get manually discarded, the same 100 get picked each time.

some new system has been put in place to make things better ha ha

we are only supposed to get hot matches that actually match

where as before 90% weren't any good

but now we are not getting any that's what I am having a winge about :-D :-D :-D

InspectorGreenPen Report 13 Jul 2011 08:40

Carol,

Are you sure the message was about HotMatches? I don't think the HotMatch email from GR mentions names, it just says you have some.

GR also send other apparently random messages to members telling them the other members may also have the same name in their tree - these are not HotMatches so you won't find them on your HM pages. This is possibly what you received. Clicking on the link in the email shoud open your browser and let you see the details.
