Hi...from my own researching they could either decide to:

1: return to Malta (if that is were they were from) especially those in the british Army but considered Maltese Nationals
2: travel to Canada
3: travel to Australia.

They had to meet normal entry / residency requirements if they were coming to Australia and yes they did need British passports and the main port of departure was Alexandria.

If you want any more help am happy to send you my contact information with email addresses etc if you would like to PM me on here.

Kind regards,

Susan

Perchino, the exit point from Egypt would have Alexandria.

Does anyone know whether during the late 1940s/50s Egyptian 'troubles' the evacuees just made their way to the nearest port and then boarded a ship to their country of origin or 'wherever', also did they need official documentation to leave the country? Does any site have records of ships leaving Egypt and the people on those crafts? I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I've checked those options but to no avail.
Insufficient details are given on those sites - just wondered whether anyone has practical knowledge on what was needed to leave Egypt.

I think anyone on here would do a google search to find out.
Just try any combination from Egypt, trouble, 1945, foreign, british, documents, etc etc.

Does anyone have any information regarding the 'troubles' in Egypt after 1945 and into the 1950s.
Did the 'foreign nationals', including the British, have to obtain documentation in order to leave Egypt and where would these records have been stored?
Which countries willingly accepted these refugees?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
