Fantastic - it will be easier to nudge this than to find the great Jonesy tips

They are all well worth reading and are so easy to understand.

Like to put links to all the other tips threads, Ken? :)

Kense Report 28 Jan 2013 22:07

I would be prepared to add some tip threads to the OP subject to getting approval for it from Estelle and some consensus of what threads to add.

Certainly your Useful Sites thread would be a good candidate. One on GEDCOMs would be good, but which one?.

There had been talk within GR months ago of there being some kind of Cyndislist.

There again, they could all go, as requested, into a tips board ;-)

http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards/board/suggestions/thread/1308919?d=desc
" ... a suggestion I had put forward on 6 Sept 2012 at 09.25 following on from Joy Kentish Maid's suggestion as follows:

Also JoyKentishMaid suggested on the 25/8/12 at 08.37:

"There are many useful tips in the genealogy chat board, many by the ever helpful Jonesey. Please create a separate tips board for them."

I really feel that this is a suggestion that should be considered - for all of Jonesey's 'Tips of the Day' and Victor's offer of lookups to be placed at the top of the Board and Stickied for existing and new members to be able to locate quickly and then there would not be a need to keep 'nudging' them.

If Jonesey's 'Tips' would over fill the first page on the board then could they be in one stickied thread with links to the individual threads (obviously with a subject heading/indicator above each link).

I think that these would be 'quick wins' for the Team at GR and would benefit a large number of members of the GR Community."

Slightly puzzled as to why only threads by Jonesey have been picked out for this star treatment.

Has anyone bothered to check out all those links to make sure that the information given is actually up to date ?

Why not leave it to the Team to decide when or how they are going to set up another board first before some members jump in and show only a fraction of the many tip threads that can be found on the boards.

DazedConfused

DazedConfused Report 21 Mar 2013 19:33

Glitterbaby - whilst there are many other threads on here which give really good and invaluable advice, Jonesey's thread are all great. Easy to understand, some on here do get a bit too techie at times.

So for any new members a quick look at Jonesy's tips will give good solid advice to start with.

As a very new (active) member of this site I just wanted to say thank you for this post. It has been very useful as I am at an early stage of starting research to check out the 'family rumours' and was getting a bit stuck of what to do next.

Jonesey is a treasure - his (I am assuming a he) tips are great for newbies and great reminders for the more experienced.

Keep up the good work

And thankyou KenSe for collating them all together.

A treasure trove of truly useful and practical information, well written, concise and no techie talk. Very easy to understand.
