Thank you Shirley,

That gives me something to think about. If this is the same Charles he must of switched his name around in his first marriage. Perhaps he preferred Joseph then.

It seems that Armstrong, Biddick, and Pink have a strong tie.

Thanks again

Thank you Chris for the information on the burials of Susan and Charles Pink. It confirms that the one for Susan was the right one and the Census record is for another Susan.

Hi Shirley,

Sorry to confuse you - I noted information I had, as in the past people would kindly look up information for me that I already had.

I lost information for both 1841 and 1851, so if you or someone could please look up these for me, I would appreciate that. For some reason I only wrote the line referring to Charles in my notes.

I think in 1841 Charles he could have been with his mother Elizabeth and some siblings.

In one of the 1851 census Charles was staying with in laws - [Charles Pink Age 33 born Isleworth, Middlesex, son-in-law,] Need to know who were his in-laws? You see Charles was a widow when he married Susan and wondering if this would give me a clue to whom he had married before Susan.

The other in 1851 is Charles Pink Age 28 as a visitor and he was born St Pancras - Occupation Cabinet Maker. So either of these could be him.

The other mystery is in the 1881 Census where two children William and Henry were sons of a Charles Pink. How can I ascertain if these two children were Susan [Levesque] Pink's children or not? Is the Susan in 1891 Susan Margaret [Levesque] Pink or did she die in 1898 as in the Free Census and be another Susan?

Charles born about 1816 – 1822 Middlesex
Susan Margaret Levesque c 6 Oct 1830, Horsham, Sussex Parents John Levesque and Mary Tuffin Penny [have her details of her family and ancestors]

Can someone help me unravel the information I have about Charles & Susan. The only positive information I have is a marriage certificate [have original copy].
FreeBMD: -
Marriages Jun 1870
Levesque Susan Margaret Shoreditch 1c 238 PINK
Charles Joseph Shoreditch 1c 238

Brief details from Marriage Certificate: -
Apr 24 1870 St James Church, Shoreditch Middlesex.
Susan Margaret Levesque age 39 Spinster Servant - 6 White House Court - Father John Levesque, Brewer Dec
Charles Joseph Pink age 53, Widower, Cabinet Maker, - Father Joseph Pink, Carrier Dec.
Witnesses William Cleland & Amelia Beubley signed by a cross (Tumberville Evans)

Census 1841: Charles Pink Age: 20 born Middlesex Cabinet Maker
Census 1841: Susan Levesque Age 10 Sussex

Census 1851: Charles Pink Age 33 born Isleworth, Middlesex, son-in-law
or
Census 1851: Charles Pink Age 28 is a visitor born St Pancras - Cabinet Maker

Census 1861: Charles Pink Age 39 born Isleworth – carpenter

Census 1871: Charles Pink aged 50 - carpenter - with wife ‘Margaret’ - wardrobe dealer [presumably Susan’s 2nd name born Sussex 1830] with 3 daughters of Charles other marriage, Jessie 1857, Emily J 1867, Eliza M 1869.

Now if I follow the daughter Emily and father Charles] in 1881 this is what I came up with:

Census 1881: Charles Pink Age 65 born St Pancras [much older than in 1871] – disability - Handy Man (Art) – Emily 14, William 12, Harry 10 [refer below 1891]
This ties up with his death from Free Census for Charles
Deaths Dec 1881
Pink Charles Joseph 65 Hackney 1b 384

Census 1881: Margaret Pink 1831 Horsham Married Attendant (Dom) apparently to 4 lodgers
Lodger Jane Levesque F 75 Hythe, Kent, England
Lodger Mary Levesque F 66 Hythe, Kent, England
Lodger Eugene Levesque F 70 Hythe, Kent, England
Lodger Louisa Levesque F 52 Horsham, Sussex, England
As Margaret or Susan was a Levesque before she married this could be her.

In the FreeCensus we have what appears to be Susan’s death
Deaths Sep 1898 Pink Susan Margaret 68 Islington 1b 161

But in Census 1891 a Susan is with her two sons that tie up with the ages in 1881 Census:
Pink Susan 1831 N.K. Sussex Islington, Islington South-East View – Needle woman
Pink William 1871 - Stepney Islington, Islington South-East View - Coachman
Pink Henry 1873 Bethnal Green Islington, Islington South-East - Clothers Cutter

Thanks
