The coastal area recruitment didn't last for long but by then then Mum had joined the ATS.

Lower age limit was 18, reduced to 17½ in late 1950's.

I don't know about coastal areas, but I know someone who joined at the outbreak of war and she lived in Bath.

They were sent to Naval Shore Bases (as Reggie said), and Naval Air Stations both at home and abroad.

When are you talking about?

At the very beginning of WW2 they were only recruiting Wrens from coastal areas. Much to the annoyance of Mum who came from a London based Navy family.

Not normally 'recruited'.............enlisted voluntarily. Minimum age, I believe, 17

Postings would be to any shore-based naval station..............it's only in very recent times that females have served on board ships

BUT..............................

To find out about the way the service operated........google WRNS
