Do you know whether this is his marriage (wife Alice in 1871 was born in Chippenham about 1807)?

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NL8K-L5W

Name: James Barry
Spouse's Name: Alice Matthews Gale
Event Date: 25 Nov 1841
Event Place: Bremhill,Wiltshire,England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M05887-1

if so and if you are looking for his ancestry the marriage certificate should give you his father's name.

Ah yes, his wife's sister Ann Gale is in the 1871 household.

Self James Barry M 63 Wincanton, Somerset
Wife Alice Barry F 64 Chippenham, Wiltshire
Son Frank Barry M 26 Chippenham, Wiltshire
Son George Barry M 19 Chippenham, Wiltshire
Sister Ann Gale F 70 Kinton, Wiltshire
Visitor Florence Pearce F 4 Tottenham, Middlesex

Marriages Dec 1841
BARRY James Calne 8 464
GALE Alice Matthews Calne 8 464

also he remarried at rather an advanced age! so it could be interesting to see what he said on that certificate

Marriages Dec 1879
Barry James Lambeth 1d 845
MALBORN Mary Elizabeth Lambeth 1d 845
MEBBORN Mary Elizabeth Lambeth 1d 845
Medborn Mary Elizabeth Lambeth 1d 845

freebmd doesn't seem to have settled on her name yet. :-)

There is a place called Stoke trister just east of Wincanton also the place sackmore could be Sycamore? Their is a farm by that name on the road between Stoke trister and Wincanton,

You need to take the somerset accent in to acount, Sycamore could easily be mistaken for sackmore,

If you go to Bing maps, and once you have wincanton then switch to ordnance servey map then zoom in you will see the farm

Hi Everyone,

I have an ancestor born abt 1807 in England. James Barry occupation watchmaker.

His birthplace as listed on census and marriage certs vary. Stoke /trister/wincanton somerset. Sackmore somerset.

I have been unable to find his birth and am wondering if anyone may have heard of sackmore? Or have any idea how i could find this place.

I am in australia and only have a recent map of somerset but sackmore is not listed.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thankyou Victoria
