I have a Fredercik William Peters born abt 1860 in Edburton, Findon, Sussex. Registration district not known as 2 other F W Peters reg in steyning are the wrong ones.
In 1881 my Frederick does not appear on English census but could possibly have been in Ireland as he married an irish girl in 1883 back in England. Is there any way I can find him in Ireland betwen 1881 and 1883. His marriage cert shows him to be retired Rifle Brigade.
Many thanks and sorry for the gobeldy gook way of saying this.

There's a record on FMP for a Frederick Peters of Rifle Brigade, born Worthing 1858. That might be him. Perhaps someone on here can look it up for you

The FMP records for that Frederick Peters show him born 1858 and he married Mary Ann Jackson in Eastbourne district in 1883.

Is that him?

You may be able to work out from the records where he might have been in 1881, although they will probably just say Home with number of years he served here or India with number of years, for example

Says he was born Somersdean, Worthing in 1858. I can't see anywhere by that name, so if anyone wants to try and find his birth! :-|

Sorry, I'm a bit behind the boards. I have no idea where Somersdean may be but Worthing is quite near Findon.

Long forgotten place names have a habit of being used on nearby developments and their is a street called Somersdeane not far from Worthing,

Somersdeane, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex BN42

And this,

Edburton and Fulking c.1875 ... All those roads lead to a junction near the head of the Summers Deane valley

From http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=18397

go to the site then click on the map, it shows SummersDeane and a SummersDeane Farm

Roy

Just checked with a freind who has a up to date 1,25000 OS map and Summers deane is listed
