More like Ancestry's computer just finds a name and village/town and doesn't pick anything else up.

Well I thought it was funny, anyway.

In such a case it might be worth checking the census entry. If the person was born in the same village and time as the one who apparently died then perhaps it was another family member with the same name whose death has been wrongly ascribed.

I am not suggesting your tree is wrong BeverleyW, just pointing out why Ancestry doesn't assume tree entries are 100% correct when making hints.

I need to take more care with my phrasing.

Just like a Hot Match on here, the Ancestry hint is of course not random. What I meant was that you don't necesarily get them all. They are a bit like London busses......

The GR system does not check all records in all trees every time the match process runs. And getting a match message does not mean that the other member gets one.

It's probably still as clear as mud?

My latest email stated that there were 132 new hints for my tree. I did not look for them. It also listed some of those within the body of the message. An example for one of the listed names copied direct from the email:-

"M... J..." (1897-1969)
2 new hints .
1901 England Census
England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007

That person has been in my tree for at least five months. My working tree is on here, and I last downloaded/uploaded a gedcom in July. So why am I only now getting the hints?????????

That is not what I would call a random match.............

Yes the hints are wonderful....probably that's why there are so many rubbishy trees
