this is why I am stuck its gone beyond confusion Even had problems with his mother Ellen agnes Nee treggiden as one died in 1895 at 1 yr old but was married in 1909 to Frederick george scales found record on census for them 1911. Frederick george aged 25 as Head Ellen Agnes Scales as wife aged 26 Agnes Margaret treggiden sister aged 22 edward f scales aged 7 months son. there was a helen agnes treggiden born 1885 and a agnes margaret treggiden born 1889 as they were Ellens sisters I can only assume that Helen's parents changed the spelling of her name. I have made the links to my tree on this assumption I hope one day to clear it up.

Don't really understand why she was registered twice, both as Scales MMn Rees too.
If it was because she was adopted by Mr Lyons 1) it would be in the adoption register and b) it would be as Lyons not Scales

If her father WAS Mr Lyons her birth could be legitimised if they later married , but one birth reg would be superceded by the other and again, would be Lyons

Divorce records on National Archives only go up to 1937 (after that there's not much chance of finding anything).

They were still together in 1938:

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965

Name: Thomas William Scales
Year: 1938
County or Borough: Camden
Ward or Division/Constituency: Hampstead
Street Address: 4 Gascony Avenue

with Gwyneth Jeanne Scales.

EDIT: They're still there in 1939

There no record of his death prior to the 2nd marriage but there is one when he was in his 80's unless different T W Scales. will have to check info for dates and place. After the 2nd marriage Gwyneth and John left England with the children.

A child may have been the natural child of another man not the husband . They would have reg in the mums current surname at the time but a subsequent marriage of the parents legitimized them so they would be re registered in the fathers surname.
