Thank you so much for doing this you are very kind! Interesting to find out things about a house......especially who lived there. I cant find house on 1881 census and the family were living elsewhere in 19881 so that clears up that part for me.

Tracey - check your messages inbox. I've sent you a cutting for the property advert from 1897, £325k sounds a bargain going by the description:

Dining room; drawing room; 5 bedrooms; bathroom; 2 wcs; 2 kitchens; scullery; outbuildings and a greenhouse with a modern heating system. Front and back gardens.

It states that it was recently built by Mr John Holton so the 1891 census is probably the earliest.

Tracey, there are various calculators that tell you what a sum of money back then would be worth now. However they just don't seem to work on property prices.

A sum of £910 in 1897 is apparently worth around £83k now.

My house was built in 1867 and sold for £500 then so using those calculators £500 is now worth £40k - Hmm, I think my house is worth a bit more than that.

Thanks MarieCeleste.......wow £910 wonder what that would be in today's equivalent value.....it is for sale now for £325,000!

Thanks so much Shirley it was house number 51. Strange coincidence that Mr Harris was from Luton and ended up in Lincoln as I come from Luton too!!

Hi Tracey as far as I can see on the 1901 census there were quite a few properties on South Park that were un-named and un-numbered so it could be difficult to tell which it was.

However there was a newspaper article in December 1897 about the sale of properties in the area that says "A villa residence on South park, known as Guildford House, was purchased by Mr. Harris for " (The amount is unclear). Will dig a bit further.

EDIT: Looks like Mr Harris was still there in 1911 going by post above. Amount paid was £910
