Mike or anyone else who is going to the Leicester Records office in the next few weeks ... a favour if I may ask (and I will fully understand if you say no!!) I'm trying to confirm some info gleaned from IGI .... Joseph Bentley married Ann Kirk - 19th August 1839 in the Sheepshed Registry office. I have the marriage certificate so comfortable with that. This is the info I would like to confirm .... The same Joseph Bentley born 1819 in Sheepshed. Parents: John Bentley, 1775, Sheepshed & Mary Sennet, 1779, Sheepshed. The same Ann Kirk born 1815 in Sheepshed. Parents: Edward Kirk, 1781, Sheepshed and either Sarah Coulson or Sarah Clarkson, born in Sutton Benger, Notts (according to the census). Many thanks in advance.

Greeting's Again Charles ...... Printed off and will do my best to have a look for you this week Re:- the Marriage of Ann & Joseph at a Register Office...... NO Records will be held of a marriage which took place in a Register Office at Wigston or for any Records Office in the UK you will always have to order the certificate through the usual channels. Ummm..??? :0/.....My Parish locater tells me that ' Sutton Benger ' Is in the County of WILTSHIRE It's just to the West of....... Swindon. and not Nottinghamshire. ...... MIKE. UPDATED. Just had a whiz round my disks but drew a blank I'm afraid No sign of them in 1861. & NO burial records found within Shepshed for any of them...... Other than Census returns for 1841. & 1851.:- 1841. Shepshed. Belton Street. Joseph Bentley. 20. Stocking Maker Ann. 20. Mary. 1. TWO doors down :- John Bentley. 75. Stocking Maker. Mary. 65. Ditto. Stated all Born within the County. 1851. Census. Shepshed. Belton Street. Joseph Bentley Head. Mar. 30. FWK. b Shepshed. Ann Wife. 34. Ditto. b Ditto. TWO doors down John Bentley. Head. Mar. 86. FWK. Born Shepshed. Leicestershire. Mary Wife. 65. born LONDON. MIDDLESEX. So it's looking good that Joseph might be the Son of John

Mike, Thank You so so much! They are all my relatives, and all show up except Eliza Fitchett and James Cleaver marriage (maybe they weren't married, just common law) that's a thought! I am happy to see William had a daughter, as I didn't know that Francis Cleaver was related-she was always popping up in my searches. I did boo-boo- It was John 1799 or 1800, Hinckley, and Ann Cleaver ( Jackson) 1812, Hinckley( I think) because there were FWK Jacksons there . I know they married app. 1830-1831, because William was born in 1832-1833. They were in Hinckley, because the parents were FWKnitters. We think John's parents were William and Elizabeth Cleaver, but haven't proved it yet. This is exciting, because my Leicester cousins don't research enough-no time-and most of them could care less, I am happy to have met you-must be fate, lol! Take care, Mike! Carol

Thanks for your help Mike. Your comment re: Sutton Benger is interesting. I got that one from the 1851 census. The 1841 census does not list a birthplace for her and the 1862 census lists Sheepshed as her birthplace. IGI is unclear on her maiden name. It is either Coulson or Clarkson. Again, according to IGI, the marriage took place on 16th April 1805. Just a couple of life's little mysteries. Also, your comment re: Mary Bentley is interesting. 1851 census lists her birthplace as Middlesex but 1841 lists it as Sheepshed. I must definitely pay a visit to Leicestershire, the records office and Shepshed. The more I dig into the family history the more the links to your county and Shepshed I seem to find.

Greeting’s Again……. Charles. Using the resources I have to hand…….. I think I can clear up your hic-up..... Re:- Marriage :- Edward Kirk ~ Sarah Coulson / Clarkson……on the I.G.I. My resources ONLY have showing up :- Edward Kirk.~ Sarah CLARKSON. Married in Shepshed on that date. But note that there is a marriage of Edward WRAGG. ~. MARY COULSON. 19th MAY. 1805.Also in Shepshed. So I would think this marriage is the entry before your Marriage, in the Parish Registers. So who transcribed the data let their eyes slip Hence two entries for an Edward Kirk .... on the I.G.I. for ......16.04.1805..... MIKE.
