Thank you Paul for putting into words what so many of us feel. I really enjoy this board for the friendliness and support it offers everyone. It is one of the few places where you know you can ask for help, advice or explanations without any fear of being made to feel either a nuisance or intellectually challenged.

Me too - agree with it all - I had emailed GR to say that most of us use GR for the help and knowledge that we can get from these boards - even though not all of us contribute as much as others - doesn't mean we aren't reading and taking on board (scuse pun!) the tips - as well as the banter and knowing that there will always be someone there - thank the lord that the boards are back! I've been bored at work with nothing to read in tea breaks and lunch!!!!! Gill :))

Paul Well put indeed sir. I have been a member for quite some time now and used to contribute on the Tips board, but found I was far too slow to keep up with the magicians, so decided to concentrate on the Trying to Find board, and have enjoyed every moment of it. I was gobsmacked with the news, and feel very sorry for the person involved, she was a star in her own right and will be sorely missed. As you say this is a wonderful family that has grown over time, and there can be no other family on the web that can touch it, for the giving of time and knowledge of many. Long may it last. Victor

I, like many would not have had a standing start in research if not given the the intial push by our esteemed missing colleague. Many others have contributed to my success and also assuaged my failures. Regards, Bob

Yes, I too spend much too much time reading everyone else’s messages! And only yesterday I was wondering about your neighbour from hell, OlderTM,YTC and also how Smiley Sam’s brother-in –law and his stepfather are getting on! SO sorry to hear that the NFH is still a NFH – can’t imagine how that must shatter the equilibrium! I’ve been briefly onto the other boards but soon escape back to Tips. I don’t say much but love the wealth of information and the warm and friendly humour here. One day I must expand my own tree from the 13 showing at the moment! All the others are still on the scruffy sheets where I started putting them 60 (yes, SIXTY) years ago! Still scared of this modern technology lark! One day I shall send out an SOS - I know where to come when I need help - so many wonderful people!! Good wishes to all - Quizzy Old Bat

hi all, i dont know exactly what happened, as i have not been on the boards for a week or so, but notice the absence of certain names, from whom over the last couple of years have always helped me and given me advice, for which i am extremely grateful, everyone is on here for the same reason, to find our roots, and if you can have a laugh about it and find some friendship on the way that only makes it more enjoyable yvette

Joy Report 16 Sep 2006 10:30

Thank you, Ozi. The winners were (if my memory serves me correctly) Paul Barton, Special Agent, Glen in Fresh Tinsel Knickers Nell Gwynne (AKA me!) and me. It was fun ... :-) It was to replace the board mascot Ed.
