Well, done it all again, successfully, without error, and put the correct page number in at the end. YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEE Keeping out of OH's way, he's painting, so off to do some more. Welcome Linda, as you can see you are not alone. It's not too serious, it only affects your mental health, and in this day and age, thats not a bad thing lol

Hello my name is Linda and I am a transcribaholic I don't get out much :)

Wendy Report 13 Aug 2006 20:59

I learnt from that mistake. Now I always save every few lines, then if anything happens you don't lose the lot. Just press F3 and it saves it automatically. Wendy (Transcriber Anonymous no 10)

Addict no 9 here, just done three pages of handwritten births, beautiful handwriting and although faded still clear enough. Well done that scribe. However, just as I finished the file (I'm putting three pages to one file as my coordinator said it would be ok, they are only short) and to finish I entered the wrong +PAGE number and the file froze!! I just had to shut down and lose the lot. Got to do it all again now. So quick tip, make sure you enter the correct page number....

Thanks Sylvia, Thats what I thought. It seemed the only logical way as the crossed out forename was illegible anyway.Thanks. Hiya Lesley, I noticed the Boo, Hows the scribe? lol Hiya Jan, Nice to meet you. Whatever your transcribing sounds pretty tough. Is it for Free bmd. Over a thousand pages seems pretty daunting, I am only allocated about a doz at a time, maybe thats because I'm new to it. Denise.

I'd be an addict if I had the time!!! I'm slogging my way through Scarborough 1861 a page or two at a time. I felt this morning I'd really made progress - am now on image 181 - but six of the pages were the admin pages for a new enumeration district! Only another 1000 to go!!! I'm sure I'd make better progress if I didn't refer to my 'helps' in attempt to clarify things - some handwriting is atrocious, wouldn't you agree? And then of course when I'm googling or looking at trade directories, I get distracted from the real search by all the interesting things that come to light. And if I didn't have a family and a job, and dead rellies to pin down, it would be hard to decide whether to keep up to date with forums or get on and do another page.. at least...!!! I'm feeling very virtuous today as I've cleaned the windows and am going to do a bit to reduce the ironing mountain (we've just come back from holiday) so will look in tomorrow. Jan

Hi Denise I'm not sure but if its only the forename that has been crossed out and a new one put over the top of it and everything else is the same then I would think you would just write the amended name as it could just be a genuine mistake....I havent come across anything like that yet so I hope I am right........does anyone else know?? Hiya Sylvia, Thanks for that, heres another one for you. (please) What do you do if you have just one name crossed out then a new one written over the top? Any ideas. Denise.

Hi all I know what to do when a line has been crossed out. If its a completed line like mine was, you still type it in; then in the next column you put:- #crossed out. then continue with the rest as normal.. Sylvia:-)(TA)

Hi Mavis, Thank you for that info. At the moment I am having trouble with my members page on f bmd. None of the graphs work and if I go back a page it just closes down. Hope it rights itself as nothing on pc has been changed. Any sign of Lesley yet? I'm now certain that she's run off with that scribe from 1885 lol. Denise.

Incase anyone didn't see the answer on the other thread: What to do if a line is crossed through: Enter it and in the next line put COMMENT entry crossed through. Found this on FreeBMD site, if you go into Transcribers Page; then Transcribers Knowledge Base; Principles of Transcribing Data, there's lots of questions like this answered. Well worth a quick read and possible add page to favourites. Happy transcribing memebers. Mavis

No Denise, not yet. Not long retired and got myself tied up with a few other things that I am quitting shortly. Then...... I think I would like to do something with Parish registers that will be free to view. Probably Cornwall or maybe Wiltshire (my ancestors built Stonehenge, and considered that since it had improved the tone of the neighbourhood, they might as well stay). There are some parishes in Cornwall that are done and they are brilliant. Victoria PS the tip (it is a tip board after all!!) with the freezer is wonderful. It saves HOURS is fiddling around.

Victoria Report 5 Aug 2006 02:09

I am looking forward to joining you all when I have cleared a few other things out of the way. In the meantime for those of you who need to defrost your freezers (I noted Fuzzy's post of the 28th) - Next time you defrost your freezer wipe over the inside (particularly the bits that freeze) with dishwashing liquid. The viscosity of the dishwashing liquid means that the next time you defrost, the ice will fall off MUCH more quickly and easily!! Victoria
