sorry - I've scrolled thro messages and can't see this anywhere... when did Florence marry George exactly? it may be worth finding a marriage certificate for Catherine Frances Herbert to see if her sister repaid the favour of being a itness - that could tie the census family in with your one Zoe

Hi Zoe I think she was Catherine (from census's) but known as Kate so that could well be her. I will check that one out. Thanks xx I posted question re Heaty's name and it looks like she was Henrietta and died in early childhood poor girl xx

Zoe

Zoe Report 10 Mar 2006 13:48

wondered if it was Catherine spelling her name with a K - but I think this may rule that out: Herbert, Catherine Frances Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1880 District: Lambeth County: Greater London London Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 411 unless she went by Kate. STill wondering what Heaty really should be - Hetty short for Henrietta maybe

Sincere thanks to Suzy, Zoe, Zoe and Pete for all your wonderful help today. I will order all certs and double check the other John Herbert s through on the census's. I feel so much better knowing that the chances are this family are mine. Like I said before this family were the reason I started this as they are relations of my much loved Grandad. I truly appreciate all the time and effort you have devoted to this xx PS Karen!!!! What a good job you had it all on gedcom!!!!

Get this for a lack of confidence in my knowledge! My g grandfather on my mothers side is Robert William James Shorter. - on marriage cert and everything, only his name isnt Robert at all - is William James. For a 30 second period I really thought I therefore had the wrong person, and so deleted everyone from him backwards (in total about 600 people - I had found most of my connections on that arm of the tree) on my tree. Luckily though for some reason I decided to make a gedcom copy of the line I deleted, and when I realised that I was being over dramatic could put it back - but think if I had just deleted it all. Suppose the thing to learn from mistakes is to keep the evidence somewhere- will come in useful one day - it always does - and to tell off the person that gave you the information in the first place - my nan certainly heard about me not being happy that her dad acquired a nickname 80 years ago! Dont kick yourself, it happens to us all, a wrong certificate for you will be someone elses treasure. As other people have said, just go back to where you know you are deffo right and double check everything you have - may be time consuming, but so worth it. Good luck. xxx

Hi Suzy That is about it. I was quite happy with my herbert line until I received the gedcom and as it's only a g grandmother I was just worried that I would mess it up so early on in my tree. She has been doing it years and it blew my confidence in myself
