Credit pricing change for census records
We have increased the amount of credits you will be charged to view an 1841-1901 census record from 3 to 5. This is the first time we've increased our credit pricing in 4 years and we hope you'll understand our need to reflect the current market rates in our pricing. The 1881 census transcript images will remain free to view.

And now the 1911 census can be searched in GR, too.

Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude, said the huge survey, which takes place every 10years, was an expensive and inefficient way of working out the population of Britain.
He told the Daily Telegraph: "There are, I believe, ways of doing this which will provide better, quicker information, more frequently and cheaper."
The Government is looking at using sources such as public and private databases, possibly from credit reference agencies and the Royal Mail.
Britain has carried out a Census every decade since 1801, apart from 1941 during the Second World War.

A spokesman for the Cabinet Office said: "The Government is examining whether after 2011 there are different ways of getting this information but no decision has been taken."

The next one will take place in March next year, at an estimated cost of £482 million. It asks for detailed information including nationality, religious faith and marital status.

The 1921 Census was taken on the night of Sunday 19th June 1921.

It had been originally planned that the census would be taken on the night of 24th April 1921 but this was delayed because of strikes.

Extra questions asked over the 1911 census included

whether a marriage has been dissolved by divorce
where each person works
the industry within which someone works
The question introduced in 1911 about the number of children was dropped, the reason given was that the results from the previous census had not yet been tabulated. Also the question about blindness, deafness or dumbness were removed on the grounds that the answers given in the previous census were unreliable and also parents had objected to giving this information about their children.

Accessing the 1921 Census .... when will the 1921 Census be released?
The ruling by the Information Commissioner that resulted in the 1911 census being opened early does not apply to the 1921 census because, unlike the 1911 census, the 1921 census was conducted under the 1920 Census Act, which is still in force and which contains a statutory prohibition on disclosure.

The stated government position from the ONS is "its intention to release the entirety of the 1921 census returns in 2022, in accordance with the non-statutory '100 year rule' which was adopted to reflect this undertaking of confidentiality".
