Hi Ive hit a brick wall can anybody tell me where to go from here. Im trying to find birth of Peter Gilford so i can send for cert Ive tried BMD and my aunts looked on 1837 on line from the years 1844-1848 but with no luck. Can we order cert without ref number. Also we are not sure of dates they keep changing on census, we think its between 1845-1848. His Birth was Ilkeston and at the moment there is no chance of getting to records office down there Thanks Bev

BEV Let me know if I can do anything to look up in Nottingham for you, not too near Bulwell!!! MIKE Do you have access to the 1851 Leicester census to find out the name of a boat? All I have are a list of names on a 'boat by the canal' William Warren Serv 27 Robert Warren Head 56 John Warren Son 19 George Warren Son 22 all boatman William is born Blisworth Northampton but not sure about the rest yet, just found them for the first time all together here. Robert is Williams father according to the banns in 1856 and the address given is Foundry Lane as ever. Many thanks Elaine

Thanks Elaine but at the moment im disowning my family and adopting another one. I phoned records office in ilkeston its under erewash now, they said if hes not on 1837 on line or indexes he wasnt registered he was just baptised. I thought ok but then found out mothers maiden name isnt on baptised record and thats what we are after. So now got to get Mother and Fathers marriage and if we cant get down there its going to cost us £11 for half an hours search and ive no idea what year they were married in or if they were married in Ilkeston. So at the momemt im cheesed off. Anyway thanks again Bev Moaning over with lol

Thanks Mike, At least I know they were all from Northampton now. Do you think servant is literally that or would apprentice be more appropriate??? Elaine

Greeting's Again Elaine... I would think ' Bo's un ' Is more appropriate..... seeing he was 27 years old. MIKE.

Hi Mike Thanks for your e-mail, need to pick your brains again. Have been talking to someone who specialises in the waterways and she suggested that the company my gggrandfather worked for may have owned houses in Foundry Lane as similar happened in Birmingham when mothers did'nt want to be on the boat when they were about to give birth. If this is right then it gives me the name of the company my William worked for which I could find out by looking at electoral rolls. I have'nt got a clue where to start and thought you would know. We are looking at 1861 I would guess before and after, Elaine

Greeting's Again Elaine.... Ummm .....Thinking aloud here.... Blisworth Northamptonshire...Was a birth place ?...... ' Stoke Bruerne ' ( Canal Museum ) comes to mind.... Seeing it's only 3 miles from Blisworth maybe that's where the Owner of the Boat operated from ? If you type ' Stoke Bruerne' into your search engine then there is loads of links to interesting sites...... Then a letter to see if they might have lists of old owners ? MIKE. Have

Sandra>> I've noted down details of some Whitmores when i was looking through the parish records for St James, Aylestone, they are early to mid 20th century so not that old but let me know if you want details. I'm not related to the Whitmores myself but i noted down details as my grandmas sister married a Whitmore. They were also from the Aylestone area. Paula
