Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC)

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 16 Mar 2005 16:35

Greeting's again Elaine..... I was slightly confused......:0/ Is the Garratt with a E or an A you have spelt it both ways ? The only variant of that surname with connections to any Church and of the date on my disks is as follows :- Marriage. Sarah Garat ~ William Wright. 12th. Oct. 1778. St. Martin Church. By Banns. I did look on The IGI and found the following events :- Wonder if this was the marriage before John's birth ? ? Marriage. John Garrat. ~ Elizabeth Freestone. 22nd. Sept. 1794. Humberstone. Leicester. (Now not too sure if Humberstone came under St. Margaret's in that early year ? ) Two John Garratt birth's around the years given One in Hose Melton Area (1799) and the other in Lutterworth Area.(1784) So it looks like a trawl through Parish Records at Wigston ? Sorry I've not hit the nail on the head for you this time...... MIKE.

Thanks Mike Lucy who is buried in the grave you mentioned is noted as a common burial, not come across this before and was rather hoping you would explain it to me because later the plot is purchased and then it became freehold? She was 'late of the Leicester Union House' Elaine ps Would there be anything to say she was buried there

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC)

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 17 Mar 2005 15:06

Greeting's Again Elaine..... Abbreviations The Age abbreviations are self-evident, consistent and reflect the original. “STBN” indicates a stillborn child and “INF” an infant of unspecified age. The Mode of Burial is usually “C” for Common or “F” for Freehold (purchased). Other entries include: S Single Interment FB Freehold Brick Grave FV Freehold Vault CF Common Interment in Freehold Grave According to an interview this morning on local radio with the Head of 'Friends of Welford Road Cemetery' I believe they do use the graves after a while if no other family are buried there. Hence Common ..... If you purchase a plot then you have a lease on the ground for a set period of time and this can be handed down through the generations.... As to if there is a stone I'm afraid you will only find that out by going to the cemetery and asking at the Lodge just inside main gates ( HQ of Friends of Welford Road) MIKE. P.S. Does Joshua appear on latter census as I've not found him yet or any burials ?
