Paula Report 26 Jan 2005 18:00

There have been some quite interesting stories in the Leicester Mercury this week about old murders/ murderers. Tonights is about William Henry Palmer who was hanged for a murder in Walcote in 1911, his victim being an elderly lady called Ann Harris and the executioner was John Ellis. This is a full page article with pictures and reading it i thought how useful it would be to someone researching any of these people. What do others think that those of us living in Leicester could post details of any such stories appearing in the paper so that those living elsewhere wouldn't miss out. Theres also a focus on nostalgia page in the merc but thats generally stuff in the last 50 years.

Greeting’s & Welcome Teresa……. Closest match I can come up with Although the enumerator spelt it with an “A” Instead for an “ E “ But he would put it down as he thought it was spelt and how it sounded to him. Also with the Burials it was left up to the Transcriber to decipher what the name was…. 1841. Scanned Census Images. HO107 / 587 / 09 / page. 9. Buckminster. Top Street. Thomas Wormall. Head. 26.
