We have just added the following indexes to the North Wales BMD website: Dolgellau Register Office Civil Marriages - Dolgellau Registration District 1837 - 1950 10,798 entries Until 1898, the Registrar had to be present, by law, at all marriage ceremonies that took place in Nonconformist chapels and Roman Catholic churches - and also, of course, at those that took place in the Register Office! He/she recorded all these marriages in the same Register - hence they are all described as "civil" marriages. The parishes in the Dolgellau registration district were: Llanymawddwy Mallwyd Talyllyn Llanfihangel-y-Pennant Llanegryn Llangelynnin Dolgellau Llanfachreth Llanelltyd Llanaber (including the town of Barmouth) Llanddwywe Llanenddwyn Many thanks to the staff of Dolgellau Register Office, for their enthusiastic assistance with this project.
