During a mid stint I nursed a lady whose surname was ROWES. She had a hefty 12lb baby that was red-faced and squalled herself to a deep puce colour on a VERY regular basis. Baby's hair was the brightest orange I have every seen anywhere! The childs name? Lillie Camelia Violet ............... Sonja

The funniest collection of TRUE names I knew (and I hope no-one from the family reads this) is the PITT family. He was Sidney, she was Florence, and their daughter was Beryl (yes, really, truly, honestly). So as a family they were Spitt, Floppit and Burial Pitt. Jan

My GGGGGG grandmother married a Thomas Cockbone. Thank goodness she had already given birth to my ancestor. On another line I have the Heron family from County Durham. One family group were all recorded as Herring. Am I fish or fowl? Jim

I knew a couple with the surname HUNT who named their son Michael (no problem there I hear you say)....but they were stupid enough to shorten it to Mike!!!! Poor kid!!!

Janet

Janet Report 25 Sep 2003 10:30

The modern trend of double-barreling the two surnames on marriage wouldn't have worked for my daughter and her husband. His surname is Ayres. (No - neither of them are hairdressers!) Janet

Tracy

Tracy Report 25 Sep 2003 10:43

I knew a HUNT too, but his first name was Mark. We had lots of fun with that at comprehensive, as you can probably guess!!

Jane

Jane Report 25 Sep 2003 15:33

Surviving psychologically unscathed from playground wits inserting a "T" into my surname was hard but I can't imagine what life must have been like for these people I've found during the course of my search for other Farwells. This will appeal to the toilet humourists - Farty, Fartier and Fartin. I kid you not!

I've not been able to check this site for 2 days - what have i started? My poor sister is listed as V.Lovely which embarrasses her quite a bit though. Anyone got any incredibly unusual names - I've an Tryphenia in my tree.
