David as far as I can tell from my own experiments dates, places of birth etc don't cause a problem, sometimes removing the submitter infomation works but not in every case. I think many of the troubles I've had with my own tree arise from unusual relationships or partial data in some generations, however I've no proof that this is the case. So far I've only managed to upload a partial tree missing data from many early generations and omitting data on distant cousins. You have made sure that your own record in the gedcom matchs the details given on this site? Its mentioned on the upload pages that this is required but it is easy to overlook.
