For Mary from Italy I did indeed place a message on this board on 26 Jun 2006 stating that Elizabeth originating from Pickwell was not part of my tree, I also said that Amos's death was listed in Dec qtr of 1865. I have rechecked for the death details of Amos but can find no record of it,I am baffled as to where the details were seen. I will have a stiff whiskey and give it some thought. Jon O'Kent

MaryfromItaly Report 19 Aug 2007 20:25

Thanks, John - isn't it odd? It'd be surprising if he died in 1865 as they were only married on 25/12/65, but I suppose it's possible. I believe Elizabeth herself was born in Leicester (she was christened at St. Margaret's), but her father William was from Pickwell.

Mike, Just wondering.... Is there such a thing as an idiot's guide to finding your way round the RO? Hoping I will get there to dig up some of my supposed non-conformist Butlers (once I can finally get rid of the builders) but wouldn't have a clue as to where to start!! New one on the builder front - in yesterday's heavy rain, new drain that is thought to be blocked was in full flood - came downstairs to find water coming under the walls of foundationless house!!!!!! Sitting room floor awash - luckily not carpeted!! Hubby seems to think that sorting builders (and leak) takes higher priority than trip to record office - can't think why - can you?? ;-))))) Maggie (in wellies!!)

* Wearing Snorkel & Flippers…& in Muffled voice * Greeting’s Again Maggie…. The nonconformist Index’s to the records are in search room No.2. Hard copies are in the strong room, which need ordering via the desk. But some have been scanned onto fiches & Micro Film. Which are in search room No.1. Once you have found which system they are in then It’s plain sailing from there ( Whoops sorry for the pun there) ….. The Micro Film can be a bit of a bind they are not in date order on the film also some times there is not a heading of which Chapel it is. ……… Sorry to hear that the “ Indoor Lido in Houghton.” is having difficulties…… Maybe it would have been easier to have made this a project for your Cubs & Scouts to achieve their D.I.Y. Badge. ? Or in your case the ' Survival Badge.' ? MIKE. xxx

Will let you know how I go on with Butlers, and if I find anything interesting at All Saints on Saturday (Boys off to footie so Maggie sneaking out of house to go grave digging!!!! Hee hee!!) M XX

I am looking for a baptism for a William Branson, born Fleckney around 1815 and his parents. His daughter Elizabeth married an Eli Wright but no marriage found. Eli was in Leicester in 1871 (was born Northants) and in 1881 they were in Croydon, married. Two brickwalls! Jackie

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 22 Aug 2007 22:28

Greeting’s & welcome ……Jackie.

I had a look at the Parish Registers for Fleckney today
At the Records Office.
Trawling the Baptism registers 1800.~ 1837.

The only William Baptised is thus :~

ANNO DOMINI :~ 1814.
Page. 3.
Entry No. 18.
14th. March.

William. BASE BORN. Son of
Sarah Nutt / Hutt ( Sorry not clear on the 1st. letter N/H. of surname )
Fleckney.
Servant.
J.P. Chambers. Curate.

I Did have a look around other Parishes close to Fleckney
There was is interesting record for KIBWORTH. Parish.

BAPTISMS ANNO DOMINI :~ 1812.

Thomas. Base born Infant to William & Ann Edwards
Of the Parish of BRANSTON. Northamptonshire
Baptised 9th. August……….J. Goodman.

Plus I found William & Elizabeth on the 1851.Census returns for Leicester
With Daughter Elizabeth aged just 7 days old.
So that makes her birthday 24th. March. 1851.
Census was taken on the night of Sunday 30th. April.1851.

Also found them on the 1881. Census in Croydon.
But still working on the years in-between.

Hi Mike,

Could I bother you to look up a few more burials on your discs? I'm trying to work out which of my Norths and Parkinsons are likely to be buried in Rothley, to save time when we visit the cemetery.

There is an online list of Rothley burials, but it only covers 1904-1954.

Some of them may be Nonconformists: William Wood North and his wife Mary Parkinson were both baptised in the Rothley Baptist Church, but married at St. Margaret's, so I'm not sure what religion their burials would have been.

- Ann Parkinson née Fletcher, wife of William Parkinson. Born Woodthorpe, date unknown, married Loughborough 1803. Died between 1821 and 1841, probably buried in Rothley (where husband was living in 1841) .

- William Parkinson, maltster, born Quorn c1771, died between 1851 and 1861. Last known address: Cave's Charity House, Barrow on Soar, where he was a beadsman. Lived in Rothley before that. I've found three possible deaths for him, in q2 1851, q1 1852 and q3 1854, all registered in Barrow .

- Mary North née Parkinson, wife of William Wood North, died q4 1879 aged 66, death registered Barrow on Soar, last known address 27 Bow Street, Rothley.

- William Wood North, died 28/5/1897, at 11 Nichols St. Leicester.

- Elizabeth North, wife or widow of William Wood North, died Leicester q2 1897, last address 11 Nichols St., Leicester.

- William North, died 28/5/1928, at 247 Saffron Lane, Leicester

I should think Ann Parkinson, Mary North and maybe William Parkinson will be buried in Rothley (is there a cemetery at Barrow?), and the rest in Leicester, but as the Norths had strong Rothley connections, I wanted to be sure where they're buried.

If the look-ups are going to take you a long time, don't worry - I'll add them to my list of things to do at the Records Office next week.
