Same here Theresa. None of the bookmarks I'd created linking to interesting threads work either. All the Indian genealogy stuff saved for future reference has blooming well disappeared.

How on earth do we search the threads?

Loz From Leices Report 22 Aug 2007 23:40

To find all your old threads go to the "advanced search" option on the left. Put your log in name into the author part and you should find your old threads again including ones you have posted on.

To find your log in name try accessing your account and it should show up there. In "My account" you can change your name in the "birth name" section instead rather that the "surname section".

I Agree that the reply box is too small as is the one when contacting members ;) But like the fact that it is on the same page as the posts so you can refer to other replies and speeds up repkying because you don't have to wait for the reply box to show up..

Don't mind the character limit unless it afffects those who post info and need more space. Although posts can be separated to overcome that I guess.

Sorry genes but this new design is difficult to navigate. The thing myself and my mum liked about genes was that it was sooo easy to use. It's a blooming nightmare now, took me ages to get messages etc. Chat, tips and looking for are totally user unfriendly!

I think you're paying your Software Guy's too much. It's gone to their head's.Get a grip and listen to your customer's.How can anyone be constructive....when there's no consultation. And,If you have noticed.. the first page to come up ,should be "Tips",The most usedpart of your site.

If you look to the left, under the heading "top tips" there is a link which says book mark. If you click on that I think it should save the thread you are currently looking at. I managed to save this thread by doing that but I think some were having a prob unless I misuderstood.

Good luck

Generally happy with new layout- threads need to be compressed a bit - too much wasted space. We need "my threads only" back please, and a "refresh" button for each thread.

Hi
I agree with Michael, everything he said.
BUT what about a TIPS On the NEW LOOK by GR, so they can tell us where to find things, instead of everyone learning by trial and error - a lot of peple will give up if they cannot locate things easily, having neither time or patience seek here and there for themselves.

Di in Sydney (wonder what this will post as)

It is interesting to see that the new software appears to be working correctly, with very few actual bugs.

Most of the complaints appear to be about appearance or not knowing where to find things.

A new Tips section would be useful but then half the fun is working out out for yourself.

Dear Genes,

Adjusting "Text too large" or"Text too small" does not overcome the problem caused by headings and text being in different sized fonts on forum topics page!!

Adjusting text size and brightness for genes site means that all other sites are difficult to view - would it not be better for everyone if genes conformed to standards used by other sites?

Current white screen/heading text size is much too "in your face" - please adjust!!

Thanks!!

This is plain daft why fix what is'nt broken, I do not like it will look for another website

Kerri

Kerri Report 23 Aug 2007 09:22

There is too much space between each thread on tips/records etc.

And not enough space in "reply Text" box.You cant see what you have just written without scrolling up & down.

Bring back "view my threads"

I notice that on Sucess stories you put all information written but on the ones that really count ,Records , Tips & Trying to find, you have only the heading & a few words.

Before the changes on "Trying to Find" it was much easier to see at a glance information each person had submitted .Now for example, looking at the Surname Bates, you see

Topic Trying to find Bates
(then it has about 7 words about this )

Then after a big gap....
Topic Trying to find Bates
(another persons information, again about 7 words)

The way you have it now ,you need to click on each one indivually to see who they are researching.

Redharissa Report 23 Aug 2007 10:22

Genes, you have a typo in the "sort by" option - Oldest first or Newst first.

What, no Newts?

Its certainly going to take some getting used to!

On the positive side it does look like you can now format your intial query into nice paragraphs.

With the number of negative reponses to the new layout, you have to consider what we are paying for, when I signed up it was the old old layout and it worked for me. Now they have changed it, doesn't that mean it is a variation to my contract with GR, as with any contract the client (me) has to agree to the variation. As with anything you can make improvements, but alas this isn't one, this is a major change. GR listen to your clients, else they will go elsewhere. If you get shoddy goods and service at one shop you don't go back, you shop at a rival instead !!!!!!!!!!!! BE WARNED
