I Know George'd D.O.B. I think his parents were George and Sophia Gregory of Steep but where did they come from? Did George marry the Emily Edwin with whom he lived in Petersfield certainly from 1851 onwards and perhaps earlier until his death c 189? and was George the father of Emily's two illegitimate daughters Emma and Sarah.George gave his birth place as Sheet but the George born to George and Sophia was Steep. Only just across the main road oiutside Petersfield.Any suggestions. Thanks |

Emily's father was Francis (see 1851 census) so this is a possible birth for Emily:- |

Thank you very much Catherine. That answered a lot of my questions . Emily and George were obviously married two years after the birth of Emma. Perhaps one day I shall find out where she was and how she came to have two illegitimate daughters before she married George. It would be nice to know her story. |

Rosebud Many thanks for the information about Emily and George's marriage. I have made a note of that web site. I am learning all the time but have a long way to go.Emily had a daughter Emma and she was the great grandmother of my late husband. The family wanated me to find out their roots if I could. Hence my interest. Thanks again. Sylvia |

Thanks again. I found Emma aged 8 and her sister Sarah aged 10 living with an Edwin family at Ropers Hill. Breedon Leics. There was a Francis there at the same time. but not Emily's father . I have been told he was in Liss in 1841 with Martha but haven't been able to find them . The whole family seem to be in the habit of leaving the children with other relations .I know Emily and George looked after the Oliver boys at different times. |

Elizabeth. Thanks for your help did Emily really have another offspring out of wedlock. I have not seen any reference to Edwin b 19 june 1831 before. I suspect he died in infancy as Francis mentions his two illegitimate grand-daughters in his will(I have been told) but no mention of an Edwin.I have followed Emma through to her death in 1911.Have a photo of her and always she gives her year of birth as 1832. Thanks for the help |

Catherine , Perhaps you would advise me please because I do not know the usual procedure. Should I close this line now since everyone has been so helpful or do I leave it for others to use ? Do I start another search for George , father of the George in this correspondence Could you give me some guidance please. Sylvia. |
