Hi there
looking for the parents of Christina Main Slater born around 1920 ish. (not sure of this may be earlier) in Hopeman. She may have had a sister Isabella.She had a daughter born in London in 1940. and went on to marry a James Dickinson in London in june 1945

Christina's marriage certificate will give her father's name and occupation. Do you have that please?
If you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there is a Christina Main Slater born in 1902. If you buy credits you will be able to view / download that register entry.
There is also one born in 1913. These are the only two born in Scotland between 1855 and 2006. For the 1913 birth, you need to order the certificate as it is too recent to be viewed online.
In Scotland, a birth registration gives the date and place of the parents' marriage. The Scottish marriage certificates give the names of the bride and grooms fathers and their occupations. It also gives the names of their mothers including maiden surname.
EDIT - Both births are in Moray (which covers Hopeman)

I think that the 1901 census I have posted for Christina Slater are probably your Christina's grandparents. Using the free search facility on Scotlandspeople a Slater and Christina Main married in Moray in 1867. That would explain why there are 2 Christina Main Slaters born in the area in the early 1900s. It was fairly common in Scotland for sons to name their second daughters for their mother and included her maiden name as a middle name.
