1841 Scottish census.
The census was taken on the 6th June 1841. To avoid any one being missed out or recorded more than once, the census had to be taken on one day. Scotland was divided into enumeration districts which were then assigned to enumerators.
In the 1841 Scottish census the head of the household was not noted, so you won’t be able to see everyone’s relationship to the head. However, we do show the full household, so you will be able to see everyone that was living at that address on the night of the census.
Take a look at the other inhabitants on the night of the census. There could be other family members staying which could give you vital clues as to other surnames within the family.
